Men’s Cross Country

Brandon Spalding, Bridgewater College

Spalding, a freshman, paced the Eagles to a third-place team finish at the Virginia Wesleyan Marlin Invitational. In his first collegiate event, Spalding finished fourth overall with a time of 27 minutes, 20 seconds. He was the first collegiate runner to finish the race, placing behind three unattached runners.

 

Women’s Cross Country

Cyasha Brown, Bridgewater College

Cyasha, a sophomore, led the Eagles to a third-place team finish at the Marlin Invitational. Brown finished second, posting a time of 20 minutes, 4.2 seconds and was the first Division III runner to cross the finish line. Brown was less than second seconds behind the race winner – Tia Miles of Norfolk State.

 

Field Hockey

Jill Dixon, Forward, Randolph-Macon College

Dixon, a sophomore from AnnArbor, Mich., scored four goals in Randolph-Macon’s lone match of the week against ODAC rival Sweet Briar College. Dixon contributed two goals for RMC’s 2-0 early lead and added two additional markers in the second stanza to lead the Yellow Jackets to the ODAC victory.

 

Men’s Soccer

Mike Karr, Back, Virginia Wesleyan College

Karr, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., was named the Most Valuable Player in the Randolph-Macon/Select Classic, after helping VWC to a 2-0 start this season. The Marlins defeated Millikin University in double overtime (3-2) and pinned a 1-0 loss on Greensboro College. Karr was a key defender in the wins, producing keys stops for VWC in both games.

 

Women’s Soccer

Kristen McCoy, Forward, Roanoke College

McCoy, a sophomore from Roanoke, Va., recorded a hat trick in Roanoke’s 4-1 win over Elms College in the RC Invitational. She then posted two of the Maroons’ four shots against #11 Rochester in a 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon. She was named to the all-tournament team.

 

Volleyball

Yana Kanoukoeva, Outside Hitter, Randolph-Macon College

Kanoukoeva, a native of Chester, Va., earned all-tournament honors as she helped Randolph-Macon to a 3-1 showing at the John Hopkins Tournament. The Yellow Jackets knocked off Sewanee, New Jersey City and Salisbury prior to bowing out against host JHU. For the weekend, Kanoukoeva, a senior, played 15 games, racking up 28 kills and a hitting percentage of .338.  She notched 8 assists, collected 19 blocks, 17 digs and nine aces. In the victory over Salisbury she hit .588 on 10 of 17 with 0 errors and a .96 serve percentage.
