ODAC Announces New Presidents Council Leadership

Virginia Wesleyan’s Dr. Billy Greer Will Chair Conference CEO Group

August 21, 2008

SALEM, Va. --- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is proud to announce leadership changes in its governance structure beginning with the 2008-09 academic year.

VWC's Dr. Billy Greer

Virginia Wesleyan College President, Dr. William Greer, will assume the role of Chair of the ODAC Presidents Council following the two year term of Lynchburg College’s Dr. Kenneth Garren. Emory & Henry’s Dr. Rosalind Reichard has been appointed the chair-elect and will begin her service on the council as well. After serving as chair for the past two years, Dr. Garren will continue his role on the ODAC Presidents Council as past-president.

Dr. Greer is responsible for chairing the ODAC’s highest governing body and also will serve as a member of the conference’s Executive Committee made up of three Directors of Athletics and one presidential representative. The three additional members of the ODAC Executive Committee remain for one more year. Sweet Briar Director of Athletics, Kelly Morrison, serves as president of the league, Curt Kendall (Bridgewater) is past-president while Randolph-Macon’s Denis Kanach is the current president-elect.

“The conference is extremely fortunate to have member presidents actively involved in the operations of the league,” said ODAC Commissioner Brad Bankston. “Bridgewater’s Phil Stone began the transition leading the conference CEOs down this path. He was followed by a host of great CEO leaders including Dr. Rusty Martin (R-MC), Dr. Walter Bortz (H-SC) and most recently Lynchburg’s Ken Garren. Dr. Greer brings a wealth of experience to the position and a keen interest in the well-being of the conference’s main focus – creating a positive student-athlete experience while maintaining a balanced approach to academics and athletics.”
