Commissioner's Cup Standings Tighten Following Winter Season

FOREST, Va. --- The completion of the winter season of athletics brings about the second update of the ODAC Commissioner's Cups presented by Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance. Much like in the fall, Washington and Lee University holds a firm grasp on the lead in the Dan Wooldridge Overall Championships Cup and the ODAC Women's Commissioner's Cup, but there's a neck-and-neck race for the ODAC Men's Commissioner's Cup. Randolph-Macon College and Washington and Lee are knotted for the top spot.

ODAC Commissioner's Cup Winter Update

Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance is the proud sponsor for the Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup and the ODAC Men and Women's Commissioner's Cups.  Farm Bureau and the ODAC continue their partnership in focusing on the strength of the conference's student-athletes and maintaining the NCAA Division III philosophy of the complete student-athlete experience.  Aside from supporting the ODAC Commissioners' Cups, Farm Bureau is the sponsor of the ODAC's sport-by-sport scholar-athlete awards.

As determined by the ODAC Board of Directors, points for the ODAC Commissioner's Cups are based on regular-season standings in team sports and championship team finishes in individual/meet sports.  Each institution has a total number of possible points it can collect based on its sport sponsorship.  The total number of points earned is then divided by the total number of possible points to determine the rating for each institution.

Washington and Lee missed out on just five total points thru the fall slate of sports on the way to a commanding 0.935 rating. The margin increased following the winter schedule of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, and men's and women's indoor track. The Generals have secured 114.0-of-133.0 total points for a 0.857 mark in the overall cup. Lynchburg College remains second with a 0.811 rating (90-of-111), and Randolph-Macon sits third with an improved 0.739 rating (68-of-92).

The Generals missed out on just 2.5 points from the fall season in the women's cup standings. The difference was nearly the same thru the winter campaign with W&L boasting a 0.862 rating after collecting 65.5 of a possible 76.0 tallies. Lynchburg and Bridgewater College maintained their positions in second and third with ratings of 0.799 (53.5-of-67) and 0.691 (52.5-of-76), respectively.

Three schools have separated themselves from the pack in the men's cup standings. Randolph-Macon and Washington and Lee sit tied with ratings of 0.851. R-MC has secured 31.5-of-37.0 points, while W&L picked up 48.5-of-57.0 tallies. Lynchburg joins the group with greater than 0.800 ratings at 0.830 as the Hornets collected 36.5-of-44.0 points.
