Washington and Lee University grabbed the remaining two first place votes and 54 points, and is followed closely by Eastern Mennonite University, which earned 53 poll points.

BC Tabs Lowry for Lacrosse Post
Bridgewater announced the hiring of Kim Lowry as the Eagles' new women's lacrosse coach on Thursday. Lowry, who takes over for Kathy Kerr, arrives in Bridgewater from national power Hamilton College. The Continentals won the 2010 D-III national title and reached the semifinals in 2009, both with Lowry as an assistant coach

2009-10 ODAC All-Academic Team
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 student-athletes for the fourth year running and matched the overall total from a year ago. With representatives from each of the 14 ODAC institutions (including Catholic for football only), 1,188 student-athletes earned recognition on the ODAC All-Academic Team.

Doherty Added to R-MC Administration
Randolph-Macon Vice President for Advancement Diane Lowder announced Tuesday that Laura Doherty will take over as the colleges Director of Athletic Advancement. Doherty will be responsible for securing private gift support for R-MC's athletic programs, along with leading fund-raising efforts for the new athletic facilities and all 15 Yellow Jackets' sports.

Cubbage Named Randolph Softball Coach
Randolph Director of Athletics Tina Hill has named Caroline Cubbage as the new WildCat head softball coach Tuesday. Cubbage earned her undergraduate degree from Lynchburg College, where she was a three-time All-American and two-time ODAC Player of the Year.

Campbell Takes Reins of Randolph Tennis
The WildCats tennis programs have found a new head mentor, as Jamie Campbell was selected to lead Randolph mens and womens teams, as announced by Director of Athletics Tina Hill Tuesday morning. Campbell comes to the College after having extensive experience at the Division I level, most recently at UTEP.

Pyzik Returns to LC as Head Coach
Lynchburg director of athletics Dr. Jack Toms announced Monday that former LC standout Abby Pyzik '04 will return to the College as the head women's basketball coach. Pyzik has assisted at neighboring Washington & Lee the last two seasons, helping the Generals to their first ODAC title and NCAA Tournament bid in 2010.

Hollins Announces New Lacrosse Coach
Director of athletics, Aubrey Shinofield made the announcement on Monday that Randy Polito will be the new lacrosse coach at Hollins University. The announcement was made after a nationwide search throughout the summer to find a replacement for Lizz Steinnmetz, who left the school after four seasons. Polito will begin his duties at the University on August 8, 2010.

Dr. Smith Tabbed to Coach LC Golf
The Lynchburg athletic department announced Friday that Dr. Stephen P. Smith will take over the Hornet golf program next season. Former head mentor Dr. Bill Kuchler announced his retirement from active coaching this spring after five seasons directing the program. He will stay with the College, continuing as an associate professor of sports management.

Banks Named RC Field Hockey Coach
Roanoke Athletic Director Scott Allison has hired former Muhlenberg assistant coach Briana Banks as head coach of the Maroons field hockey program announced today. Banks is the fifth coach since winning the programs only ODAC Championship in 2002.

Love Named D-III's Best Defender
Roanoke's Sam Love was the recipient of the 2010 William C. Stiles Memorial Award announced by the USILA this week. It is given to the nations most outstanding defensive player in NCAA Div. III. His brother, Ben Love 06 earned this honor as a senior following the 2006 season. Love also joins three other Maroons as winners of the Stiles Award.

Virginia Wesleyan designated hitter Mike Marion and Hampden-Sydney third baseman Matt Brown collected a pair of All-America awards over the past week. Marion was selected as a First Team All-American by both the ABCA and D3baseball.com. Brown was tabbed for the second team by D3baseball.com and third team by the ABCA.

Bridgewater College designated player Emily Morris was recently named to the All-America Third Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). BC's Rhodes Wins NCAA Elite 88 Award
Bridgewater's Christina Rhodes received the NCAA Elite 88 Award NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship banquet on Wednesday. The award is presented to the student-athlete at the championship with the highest GPA. Rhodes received her award from the NCAA's John Williams (above), and then earned All-America honors in the pole vault on day one.

Valles Repeats as IWLCA All-American
Roanoke midfielder Gina Valles earned her second All-America award in as many seasons through an annual vote by the Intercollegiate Womens Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The only ODAC student-athlete on the list, Valles improved upon her 2009 second team showing as she was named to the 2010 IWLCA All-America First Team.

Washington and Lee captured its seventh straight Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance ®. W&L, which was crowned champions in six sports, also claimed the Women's Commissioner's Cup for the seventh straight time. Lynchburg, winners of six titles, secured the Mens Commissioners Cup for the second straight year.

Roanoke Wins ODAC Men's Lacrosse Title
Roanoke College staved off a tough matchup with Lynchburg College to claim the 2010 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Title, 12-8, in Salem on Sunday afternoon. RC found itself down after the first quarter, but the Maroons rebounded with seven goals in the second period to spur themselves towards victory.

Generals Win Women's Lacrosse Title
The top-seeded and 15th-ranked Washington and Lee womens lacrosse team opened with seven unanswered goals and never looked back as it claimed its eighth ODAC Championship in the last 10 years with a 14-6 victory over Lynchburg College in the conference title game on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

Dr. Toms to Step Away from Coaching
Just three days after leading his Lynchburg outdoor mens track & field team to the 2010 ODAC Championship and earning conference Coach of the Year honors, head mens cross country and track and field coach Dr. Jack Toms announced his retirement Tuesday from coaching, effective at the end of the season. He will remain as the director of athletics at the school.

Royals Win Second ODAC Softball Title
Eastern Mennonite made the 20th anniversary of the ODAC Softball Tournament feel much like the first event as the Royals topped Virginia Wesleyan, 5-1, to claim the 2010 title and earn the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA D-III Softball Tournament. EMU (then EMC) won the inaugural ODAC crown in 1990.

Phillips Takes Over Hollins Hoops
Athletic Director Aubrey Shinofield has announced two changes within the athletic department at Hollins University. Richie Waggoner will be relinquishing his duties as basketball coach to devote all of his time to the office of sports information while Jim Phillips will move from assistant to head basketball coach for the upcoming season.

Nichols to Head Randolph Women's Hoops
Randolph College has appointed Allison Nichols as the WildCats new head womens basketball coach. Nichols, who will begin May 1, follows Melissa Wiggins, who coached the WildCats for 12 seasons. A Bridgewater College alum, Nichols has coached at both the Division I and II levels following a brief stint in the high school ranks.

Bridgewater Claims First ODAC Golf Title
Tuesday was a day of firsts on the links at Bay Creek Resort & Club as Bridgewater College improved upon its second round lead to capture its first ODAC golf title. Mike Redwood supplied the Eagles with their first ODAC individual champion as the senior made up four strokes to tie Guilford Colleges Peter Latimer before winning a one-hole playoff.

Since arriving in Ashland, Kanach has overseen nine ODAC team championships.

R-MC's Voelkel Honored by NCAA
Randolph-Macon forward Kevin Voelkel was named the winner of the NCAA Elite 88 Award for Division III Mens Basketball during a pre-tournament banquet held in Salem Thursday evening. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

Bridgewater's Courtney Hartman and Roanoke's Robin Yerkes headlined a good showing for the ODAC at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoo Track Championships by earning All-American honors for their performances. Hartman got the nod in the pentathlon while Yerkes picked up another in 400-meter dash.

Former BC Coach Leatherman Honored
The National Association of Basketball Coaches will present its 14th annual Outstanding Service Award at the Division III meeting of this years NABC Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 3, 2010. Former Bridgewater men's basketball coach, Bill Leatherman, is one of two individuals receiving the NABC's highest peer-awarded honor.

Guilford Wins Second ODAC Title
Guilford made its second appearance in an ODAC Men's Championship Game on Sunday, and the Quakers headed back to Greensboro with their second conference crown. GC pulled away in the second half on its way to an 81-65 win over Randolph-Macon. The Quakers received the ODAC's automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA D-III Tournament.

W&L Wins First Women's Hoops Title
Washington and Lee made its first appearance in the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament Championship Game stand up as the Generals defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 64-56, in Salem on Sunday. The win marks the first basketball title of any kind for W&L since 1980.

Emory & Henry Names New Athletic Director
Following a national search, Myra Sims was named athletic director at Emory & Henry College after serving Emory University in various athletic department positions for 23 years. From 1988 to 2003, Sims served as head coach of Emory Universitys womens basketball team, and also served as the department's liaison for major construction gifts.

GC Mentor Appenzeller Chosen for N.C. Hall
Former Guilford coach, professor and administrator Dr. Herb Appenzeller was selected for induction into the N. C. Sports Hall of Fame Monday. His class includes former football coach Jim Donnan, NFL greats Don McCauley and Mike Quick, UNC at Chapel Hill soccer All-American Carla Overbeck, UNC field hockey coach Karen Shelton and amateur golfer Paul Simson.

Werner Among Va. Hall Inductees
The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum recentley announced its inductees for the Class of 2010. Former Lynchburg College standout soccer player and Randolph-Macon College veteran coach, Helmut Werner, is amongst the eight honorees. Werner was an All-American at LC and spent 43 years coaching in Ashland.

EHC's Jennings Wins Dudley Award
Emory & Henry running back Caleb Jennings won the Dudley Award, as presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Touchdown Club of Richmond. Jennings, a junior, was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 1,371 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns via the ground.

LC's Weir Sets NCAA Goals Record
Lynchburg's Allie Weir set the NCAA Division III Field Hockey career goals scored record on Saturday with four tallies in the Hornets win over Sweet Briar. The senior now owns 121 goals in red and white with eight regular season games remaining to pad her mark.

For the third straight year, the ODAC All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 honorees. With each of the ODAC's 14 schools (including Catholic) represented, the ODAC All-Academic Team grew to 1,188 student-athletes. Washington and Lee placed the most on the list with 240 honorees.

Former LC Mentor Shellenberger Passes
Once dubbed "the winningest coach ever in college soccer" by Sports Illustrated, William H. "Bill" Shellenberger, Lynchburg College's legendary soccer coach, died Sept. 7, 2009 at age 88. His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Snidow Chapel.

Doherty Added to R-MC Administration

Hollins Announces New Lacrosse Coach
Director of athletics, Aubrey Shinofield made the announcement on Monday that Randy Polito will be the new lacrosse coach at Hollins University. The announcement was made after a nationwide search throughout the summer to find a replacement for Lizz Steinnmetz, who left the school after four seasons. Polito will begin his duties at the University on August 8, 2010.

Love Named D-III's Best Defender
Roanoke's Sam Love was the recipient of the 2010 William C. Stiles Memorial Award announced by the USILA this week. It is given to the nations most outstanding defensive player in NCAA Div. III. His brother, Ben Love 06 earned this honor as a senior following the 2006 season. Love also joins three other Maroons as winners of the Stiles Award.

Roanoke midfielder Gina Valles earned her second All-America award in as many seasons through an annual vote by the Intercollegiate Womens Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Moss Takes Home Two Tennis Honors
Hampden-Sydney College senior Will Moss became the second ODAC mens tennis student-athlete to win four ODAC Player of the Year awards in a vote of the leagues mens tennis coaches. Moss picked up a second honor as he was voted the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the ODAC sports information directors.

Duguay, Brown Top ODAC Softball Awards
Lynchburg, Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan each garnered three honorees on the All-ODAC First Team. Lynchburgs Lauren Duguay took home a pair of individual honors as the ODAC Player of the Year and ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. VWCs Brittaney Brown was named the ODAC Pitcher of the Year.

W&L Dominates Women's Tennis 1st Team
W&L placed a student-athlete at each flight of the first team in the 2010 ODAC Womens Tennis All-Conference Teams. Lauren Caire was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while Eric Ishida took home the top coaching award. Hollins saw Karen Montoya tabbed as the best freshman and Sarah Budrus honored with the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Award.

Dr. Toms to Step Away from Coaching
Just three days after leading his Lynchburg outdoor mens track & field team to the 2010 ODAC Championship and earning conference Coach of the Year honors, head mens cross country and track and field coach Dr. Jack Toms announced his retirement Tuesday from coaching, effective at the end of the season. He will remain as the director of athletics at the school.

The sixth-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team claimed a 5-0 victory over No. 2 seed Hollins in the championship match of the ODAC Tournament on Monday morning. Eagles Win ODAC Baseball Crown
Bridgewater College knew it had to win twice on Sunday to go home with some hardware, and the Eagles came through as they beat Lynchburg College in both the scheduled championship game and the double-elimination "if necessary" game. Casey Hartman (above) fired seven innings to propel BC to the win.

Royals Win Second ODAC Softball Title
Eastern Mennonite made the 20th anniversary of the ODAC Softball Tournament feel much like the first event as the Royals topped Virginia Wesleyan, 5-1, to claim the 2010 title and earn the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA D-III Softball Tournament. EMU (then EMC) won the inaugural ODAC crown in 1990.

Phillips Takes Over Hollins Hoops
Athletic Director Aubrey Shinofield has announced two changes within the athletic department at Hollins University. Richie Waggoner will be relinquishing his duties as basketball coach to devote all of his time to the office of sports information while Jim Phillips will move from assistant to head basketball coach for the upcoming season.

Nichols to Head Randolph Women's Hoops
Randolph College has appointed Allison Nichols as the WildCats new head womens basketball coach. Nichols, who will begin May 1, follows Melissa Wiggins, who coached the WildCats for 12 seasons. A Bridgewater College alum, Nichols has coached at both the Division I and II levels following a brief stint in the high school ranks.

Bridgewater Claims First ODAC Golf Title
Tuesday was a day of firsts on the links at Bay Creek Resort & Club as Bridgewater College improved upon its second round lead to capture its first ODAC golf title. Mike Redwood supplied the Eagles with their first ODAC individual champion as the senior made up four strokes to tie Guilford Colleges Peter Latimer before winning a one-hole playoff.

R-MC AD Kanach Announces Retirement
After six years at the helm of the Randolph-Macon College athletics program and over 40 years in athletics, R-MC Director Athletics, Denis Kanach, has announced his retirement effective at the close of the 2009-10 academic year. Since arriving in Ashland, Kanach has overseen nine ODAC team championships.

R-MC's Voelkel Honored by NCAA
Randolph-Macon forward Kevin Voelkel was named the winner of the NCAA Elite 88 Award for Division III Mens Basketball during a pre-tournament banquet held in Salem Thursday evening. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

Bridgewater's Courtney Hartman and Roanoke's Robin Yerkes headlined a good showing for the ODAC at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoo Track Championships by earning All-American honors for their performances. Hartman got the nod in the pentathlon while Yerkes picked up another in 400-meter dash.

LC Sits Atop Commissioners Cup Rankings
The 2010 winter ODAC championships have all come to a close and the race for the Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance, is underway. Lynchburg is atop the current rankings for the overall cup. Virginia Wesleyan is at the head for the men's cup, while Washington and Lee tops the rankings for the womens cup.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches will present its 14th annual Outstanding Service Award at the Division III meeting of this years NABC Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 3, 2010. Former Bridgewater men's basketball coach, Bill Leatherman, is one of two individuals receiving the NABC's highest peer-awarded honor.

Guilford Wins Second ODAC Title
Guilford made its second appearance in an ODAC Men's Championship Game on Sunday, and the Quakers headed back to Greensboro with their second conference crown. GC pulled away in the second half on its way to an 81-65 win over Randolph-Macon. The Quakers received the ODAC's automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA D-III Tournament.

W&L Wins First Women's Hoops Title
Washington and Lee made its first appearance in the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament Championship Game stand up as the Generals defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 64-56, in Salem on Sunday. The win marks the first basketball title of any kind for W&L since 1980.

Hollins Adds Volleyball, Hires New Coach
Hollins University announced earlier this winter that it would be adding volleyball to its stable of seven collegiate sports, beginning with a provisional schedule in 2010-11. Jason Kozak has made the move from UVA to be the new head coach of the program's restart.

Emory & Henry Names New Athletic Director
Following a national search, Myra Sims was named athletic director at Emory & Henry College after serving Emory University in various athletic department positions for 23 years. From 1988 to 2003, Sims served as head coach of Emory Universitys womens basketball team, and also served as the department's liaison for major construction gifts.

GC Mentor Appenzeller Chosen for N.C. Hall
Former Guilford coach, professor and administrator Dr. Herb Appenzeller was selected for induction into the N. C. Sports Hall of Fame Monday. His class includes former football coach Jim Donnan, NFL greats Don McCauley and Mike Quick, UNC at Chapel Hill soccer All-American Carla Overbeck, UNC field hockey coach Karen Shelton and amateur golfer Paul Simson.

Werner Among Va. Hall Inductees
The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum recentley announced its inductees for the Class of 2010. Former Lynchburg College standout soccer player and Randolph-Macon College veteran coach, Helmut Werner, is amongst the eight honorees. Werner was an All-American at LC and spent 43 years coaching in Ashland.

EHC's Jennings Wins Dudley Award
Emory & Henry running back Caleb Jennings won the Dudley Award, as presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Touchdown Club of Richmond. Jennings, a junior, was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 1,371 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns via the ground.

LC's Weir Sets NCAA Goals Record
Lynchburg's Allie Weir set the NCAA Division III Field Hockey career goals scored record on Saturday with four tallies in the Hornets win over Sweet Briar. The senior now owns 121 goals in red and white with eight regular season games remaining to pad her mark.

Guilford Honors Longtime Coach Maynard
Alumni and friends have made gifts and pledges totaling nearly $290,000 to establish a fund honoring retired Guilford College coach Stuart T. Maynard, the college announced Sept. 26 during Homecoming and Family Weekend.

2008-09 ODAC All-Academic Team
For the third straight year, the ODAC All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 honorees. With each of the ODAC's 14 schools (including Catholic) represented, the ODAC All-Academic Team grew to 1,188 student-athletes. Washington and Lee placed the most on the list with 240 honorees.

Former LC Mentor Shellenberger Passes
Once dubbed "the winningest coach ever in college soccer" by Sports Illustrated, William H. "Bill" Shellenberger, Lynchburg College's legendary soccer coach, died Sept. 7, 2009 at age 88. His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Snidow Chapel.

Lynchburg Dedicates New Press Box in Honor of Wooldridge

ODAC Announces 2007-08 All-Academic Team
For the second straight year, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 student-athletes. Through 2007-08 academic year, 1,056 ODAC athletes were honored amongst the conferences competing schools with an All-ODAC Academic Award.
