Eight years after graduating from Eastern Mennonite, Erik Kratz finally got the call he wanted - the call to the big leagues. Kratz, who still holds 21 season or career records at EMU, has patiently worked his way through baseball's minor leagues before getting his big call during Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star game (photo: Bill Gentry).

Virginia Wesleyan designated hitter Mike Marion and Hampden-Sydney third baseman Matt Brown collected a pair of All-America awards over the past week. Marion was selected as a First Team All-American by both the ABCA and D3baseball.com. Brown was tabbed for the second team by D3baseball.com and third team by the ABCA.

With the game tied at two each, Salisbury tagged three runs on the board in the sixth, before notching a total of seven runs in three innings to knock the Bridgewater Eagles baseball out of the NCAA South Regional Championships at Methodist University by a 9-2 tally. Bridgewater ends the season with a 23-20-1 record after winning the program's 13th ODAC Championship.

The USA South Champion No. 9 Shenandoah Hornets (35-8) scored in six of their eight innings at the plate while the Bridgewater Eagles offense was held in check as the Eagles fell by an 11-1 tally in the opening game of the 2010 NCAA Division III South Region Championships at Methodist University. BC will now face Salisbury in an elimination game on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.

5/17/10
Bridgewater will be the only representative from the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament, as announced in the NCAA regional pairings release on Monday. The Eagles earned their place in the NCAA field by winning the ODAC tournament title. Regional play begins on Friday, May 28.

Three ODAC baseball players added honors to their résumés over the past week as CoSIDA announced its academic all-district teams. Virginia Wesleyan's Max Axelrod headlines the list as he was named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 First Team. Bridgewater's Drew Elkins and Guilford's Alex Starbuck were tabbed to the second team.
