ODAC Football Play of the Week: Week 6
ODAC Football Play of the Week Nominees - Week 6
ODAC FBALL Play of the Week - Week 06: Bridgewater
Bridgewater may have found the going rough in a 52-24 loss to Randolph-Macon, but this late score showed some ingenuity and hope early in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Brendon Maturey seemed all but down before the ball emerged from the pile via a pitch to Malivai Barker. He took it into the end zone to make it 45-24 with 12:31 to play. It marked Barkers' third rushing score of the game.
ODAC FBALL Play of the Week - Week 06: Guilford
Despite a 21-18 loss to Hampden-Sydney, Guilford got a shot in the arm from its defense in the early going. With H-SC on the ball at its own 24-yard line, Quakers defensive back Terry Singleton took advantage of a miscommunication on a quick pass as he stepped into the intended passing lane and picked off the pass at the 30-yard line. He sprinted the distance to the end zone to give Guilford an 10-6 lead midway thru the second quarter.
ODAC FBALL Play of the Week - Week 06: Randolph-Macon
Randolph-Macon used the big play early and often in its 52-24 victory at Bridgewater. Tre Frederick, who ran for 231 yards and four touchdowns, opened up the big play ledger on just the second play from scrimmage for R-MC as he put his foot down and burst 82 yards down the sideline. He was able to out-run a pair of would-be tacklers to the pylon. He would later add scores of 42, 49 and 5 yards.
ODAC FBALL Play of the Week - Week 06: Shenandoah
Shenandoah's offense has been prolific this season, scoring 30 or more points in all five games. A lot of that has been due to the passing game. Jalen Hudson continued that trend on Saturday when he took this quick out pass from Hayden Bauserman, went one way, reversed his direction and eluded several defenders before ending his 43-yard play in the end zone for a 34-24 lead midway thru the third quarter. SU would go on to defeat Emory & Henry, 47-24.
ODAC FBALL Play of the Week - Week 06: Washington and Lee
Washington and Lee's option offense has many looks with several sweeps and slants. Quarterback Matt Sgro executed a perfect fake inside-handoff option pitch to Jimmie Johnson. Johnson, who started on the near side, came all the way around to accept the pitch and scamper 46 yards to tuck just inside the pylon. The score game W&L an early 7-0 lead on the way to a 28-21 non-conference win over Washington-St. Louis.
