LC Tops Juniata, Advances in NCAA's

Hornets to Face Ursinus in Second Round
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The No. 10 Lynchburg College
field hockey team got a hat trick from sophomore Jordan
Warrington in a 5-3 victory over No. 14 Juniata College in the
first round of the NCAA Tournament in heavy rain from Shellenberger
Field.
With the victory, Lynchburg (18-4) advances to take on No. 3
Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA this Saturday. LC scored the
opening goal just 28 seconds into the contest, as Warrington
finished a pass from Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) to take
an early lead.
Allie Weir scored her 31st goal of the season at 19:45
of the contest, corralling a Shelly Milks cross and shooting it
past the JC keeper. The Hornets struck just 22 seconds later to
make the score 3-0 as Warrington got her second of the half with
help from Jenny Weir.
Shauna Deschenes got the Eagles on the board at 21:55, finishing a
pass from Caroline Phillips to send the game into intermission with
a score of 3-1. After halftime, Juniata (17-5) pulled to within one
at 36:12 on an unassisted Kim Amrod goal, her 18th of
the year. The Hornets answered 1:48 later, pushing their lead back
up to two thanks to Warrington's third of the evening.
Allie Weir notched her second of the night at 52:51 to put LC back
up by three, as Warrington dished off to Weir off of a long run for
the score. With her second goal of the night, Allie Weir tied Denae
Chambers of Messiah as the Division III all-time points leader with
297 in her career.
Meg McGLone scored an unassisted score with just under three
minutes to go for JC, but the Eagles would get no closer. Lynchburg
outshot its visitors 26-9, holding a 10-5 advantage in penalty
corners. Juniata keeper Denalyn Spratt made seven saves while Sarah
Cates stopped two shots for LC.
Lynchburg will travel to take on Ursinus College at 11 a.m. this
Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. UC knocked LC
out of the 2008 NCAA Tournament with a score of 3-2.
