CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. --- Bridgewater College junior Christina Herbert has been named the PING WGCA Division III National Player of the Year.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association announced the awards for PING WGCA Division III Player of the Year, WGCA Division III Freshman of the Year and Division III Golf Pride WGCA National Coach of the Year. The announcement follows the selection of All-Region teams, All-American teams, Golf Pride Regional Coaches of the Year and the recipient of the Kim Moore Spirit Award, all of which were awarded at the WGCA Division III Awards Banquet held in Houston, Texas on May 10.

The BC junior led Division III in scoring average for the 2016-17 season (74.04) and then won the NCAA D-III national championship by two strokes with a four-day total of 293.She was named a WGCA first team All-American for the second straight year, while also earning All-East Region and ODAC Player of the Year honors.
Herbert won the ODAC individual title by six strokes, and helped Bridgewater to its second straight ODAC team title in the program's fifth varsity season.
Overall, she won medalist honors in eight of her 11 tournaments during the 2016-17 season. She carded a career-best round of 69 three times this season, including in the second round of the NCAA championship.
Herbert was also named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
She is the second Bridgewater College junior female athlete to earn National Player of the Year honors this year, joining indoor track & field sprinter Amber Celen (USTFCCCA).
