  • Herbert and Hull Earn Nominations for Honda Woman Athlete of the Year

    Bridgewater College women's golfer Christina Herbert and Virginia Wesleyan University softball pitcher Hanna Hull both earned nominations for the Division III Woman Athlete of the Year award as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.

    The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is pleased to announce that Virginia Wesleyan University freshman pitcher Hanna Hull has been named the 2017 winner of the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year award.

  • Marlins Advance as Hull Sets Wins Record in Shutout of Illinois Wesleyan

    Virginia Wesleyan lefty Hanna Hull became the ODAC single-season wins leader on Saturday afternoon as she recorded her 31st victory of the season with a 6-0 shutout of Illinois Wesleyan. The win advances the Marlins to a rematch with Texas-Tyler, which VWU needs to defeat twice to reached the best-of-three matchup with a yet to be determined team for a shot to hoist the national trophy.
  • Hull Ties ODAC Wins Record in Victory Over Trine

    Top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University picked up its first win in Oklahoma City at the NCAA Division III Softball National Championship Series as Hanna Hull fanned 10 batters to move to 30-3 and tie the ODAC record for wins in a season with a 2-0 triumph over Trine University.

    Randolph-Macon College combined some timely hitting with a pair of strong pitching performances by Candace Whittemore to win twice on Sunday and remain in contention in NCAA Division III Softball Regional play. The Yellow Jackets, facing elimination in both games, defeated Franklin & Marshall College, 3-1, before registering a second 3-1 result over Averett University at R-MC Softball Field in Ashland.

    Virginia Wesleyan College lefty Hanna Hull increased her season strikeout total to 298 with 14 punchouts in the Marlins 3-0 victory over Averett University in Ashland on Sunday. The win moves VWC to within one victory of claiming the regional championship and a berth in next weekend's NCAA Division III Softball Tournament super regionals.

    The second-seeded Randolph-Macon softball team was held to one hit in an 8-0 six-inning loss to third-seeded Averett in the first round of the NCAA Division III Ashland Regional Softball Tournament.

    The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (35-15) split its pair of games on Saturday at the Mount Berry Regional of the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Wasps defeated Thomas More College (35-10) by a 6-3 score to start the day before seeing their historical season come to a close at the hands of No. 2 nationally-ranked Berry College (40-3).

    Virginia Wesleyan used a five-run third inning and a three-hit shutout from Hanna Hull to open regional play in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall College in Ashland on Saturday.

  • VWC’s Hull, Howerin Headline All-ODAC Softball Awards

    Nationally top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College took home four major awards in addition to seeing a league-best six Marlins earn all-conference recognition as part of the 2017 All-ODAC Softball Awards. First-year lefty Hanna Hull received both ODAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year laurels, while junior teammate Cassetty Howerin collected ODAC Player of the Year honors. Marlins mentor Brandon Elliott was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year in a vote of his peers. Emory & Henry College senior Danielle Loving secured the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award from the conference’s sports information directors.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Captures 10th ODAC Softball Title

    Virginia Wesleyan College secured its second straight and 10th overall ODAC Softball Tournament championship on Sunday afternoon, defeating Emory & Henry College, 2-0, in the second of two title games in the event's double elimination format. It was the first time the "if necessary" game was needed to determine a league champion since 2007.
  • Eight-Team Field Set for ODAC Softball Tournament

    Weather may have forced the ODAC regular season to extend by a few days, but that didn't keep ODAC teams from putting together an outstanding field for the upcoming ODAC Softball Tournament. Virginia Wesleyan College, the number one team in the country by the NFCA, enters the ODAC Tournament as the top seed riding a 23-game winning streak and boasting a gaudy 39-1 overall record that includes a perfect 20-0 march thru league play. But the Marlins' profile is not alone in impressing conference softball fans.
