HONOREE FROM THE OLD DOMINION ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
- First Commissioner of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, a role he held for 21 years
- 1956 graduate of then Lynchburg College where he was a three-sport star, eventually turning to professional baseball in the Pittsburgh Pirates system
- Inductee into both the University of Lynchburg Athletics Hall of Fame and Virginia Sports Hall of Fame
- Accomplished football and basketball official as well as service as an officials supervisor for several major collegiate conferences; in addition to his collegiate experience, he also officiated in the professional ranks and was one of two referees from the United States to officiate games at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal
- Namesake of the Dan Wooldridge Overall Champions Cup as part of the ODAC Commissioner's Cup award setup
- Responsible for bringing the first of now more than 100 NCAA championships to the City of Salem
- Honored through the Salem Rotary Club Wooldridge Scholarship Foundation Fund, which presents two scholarships to the men's and women's basketball winners of the Division III Jostens Trophy awards
- Along with his wife Nancy, heavily involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA); founded Roanoke Valley FCA in 1964; inducted into the FCA Hall of Fame in 2017
ODAC HOF Quick Fact: While a student at then Lynchburg College in 1952, Wooldridge was a student of professor Marjorie Berkley, the namesake of the ODAC's Berkley Award. Wooldridge later hired Berkley as the ODAC's first associate commissioner. They maintained a relationship for 65 years until
her passing in 2017. Wooldridge
passed away in 2024.
