- Trailblazing Leadership: Serving as Washington and Lee’s Michael F. Walsh Director of Athletics since 2007–08, Hathorn is the first woman and seventh person to hold the role, entering her 19th year in 2025–26
- ODAC Dominance: Under her leadership, W&L has won 151 conference team championships, maintained a winning percentage above 60%, and captured the ODAC’s Dan Wooldridge Champions Cup every year of her tenure, extending the school’s streak to 23 straight titles
- Dual-Sport Coach: Launched and led W&L’s women’s soccer program (1987–2000) and women’s lacrosse program (1989–2007), guiding both to sustained success with 11 ODAC Coach of the Year honors and nine conference titles
- Lacrosse Excellence & Recognition: Laid the foundation for W&L women’s lacrosse to become perennial conference champion and national contender, culminating in the 2010 Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial Award for lifetime achievement in the sport
- National Standing: Guided W&L to consistent Top 50 LEARFIELD/NACDA Director’s Cup finishes, including a program-best 13th in 2017–18 and 2024–25, with multiple seasons producing record win percentages and NCAA postseason appearances
- National Influence & Honors: Recipient of the 2019 NCAA Division III Administrator of the Year Award; inducted into the Marcus Whitman High School (2011), SUNY Cortland (2017), IWLCA (2022), and Denison University (2024) Halls of Fame
