HONOREE FROM EMORY & HENRY UNIVERSITY
- Led the Wasps's women's basketball program to 384 wins over the course of her 28 seasons as head coach beginning in 1981 with 19 winning seasons including an ODAC title in 1988
- Three-time ODAC Coach of the Year (1984, 2002, 2003)
- The Joy Scruggs Leadership Award is bestowed annually to the player who best embodies servant leadership, for which Scruggs is widely known through her work with such organizations as the Abingdon Rotary Club
- Nine of her players have been inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame
- Continues to teach in the E&H health and human performance department
- Played at the University of Tennessee in the first year the team was coached by legendary mentor Pat Summit
