ODAC Football Report: Week 6

Three Unbeaten in Conference Play Through Two Weeks

The beat continues for Randolph-Macon through week six of action as the nationally 10th-ranked Yellow Jackets improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league play with a 59-7 triumph over Averett.

Randolph-Macon is one of three teams at 2-0 through the first two weeks of ODAC games. Bridgewater and Hampden-Sydney join the Jackets with unblemished league marks. The Eagles earned a 24-10 victory at Shenandoah in Saturday's late game. BC was the only visiting team to return home with a win. The Tigers' offense was on full display in a 48-10 win over Ferrum in one of two early outings.

The midday affair featured Washington and Lee and Guilford. The Generals held serve at home with a 48-25 win over the Quakers behind a season-high 410-yard rushing day.

Win/loss records for the ODAC's head coaches are updated for each ODAC Football Report. They are accurate as of the date of the report.

  • ALEX BIDDLE | RANDOLPH-MACON | SO | SAF | ASHBURN, VA.
Biddle, a sophomore from Ashburn, Va., helped the nationally 10th-ranked Yellow Jackets continue to leave no doubt in improving to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play. While the RMC offense continues to score points at prolific levels, the Randolph-Macon defense has been equally dominant in allowing just 54 points through five games at 10.8 per contest. Biddle helped limit Averett in RMC's 59-7 win on Saturday as he tied for team-high honors with five tackles (four solo) to go with his first two interceptions of the season. Both picks came just before halftime within 34-seconds of each other to preserve RMC's 28-7 halftime lead. His first came after the Cougars took over possession on RMC's half of the field. Biddle corralled an errant pass and returned it 12 yards to the AU 48-yard line. Biddle's second interception followed a 4-and-out by the RMC offense. After he jarred the ball loose on a Cougar's deep pass attempt on their first play, Biddle collected his second interception ranging and diving to his right to secure the ball. For the season, Biddle has made 14 tackles (10 solo) with Saturday's two interceptions and two pass breakups.

  • ANDREW PUCCINELLI | HAMPDEN-SYDNEY | SR | QB | GLEN ALLEN, VA.
Puccinelli, a senior from Glen Allen, Va., earns his second ODAC weekly honor of the season after tossing four touchdown passes for the second time this season in a 48-10 triumph over Ferrum on Saturday. Puccinelli was not just prolific in throwing for 296 yards and the four scores, but he shook off his first interception of the season by completing 84.0-percent of his passes in guiding the Tigers air attack on 21-of-25 passing. That figure falls just outside the ODAC's all-time top-10 in single-game completion percentage (minimum 15 passes thrown). Puccinelli spread the ball around to nine different receivers with Mason Cunningham serving as his favorite target. The pair connected eight times for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Those scoring plays covered 38 yards and 24 yards in the second quarter as Hampden-Sydney built up a 21-10 lead by halftime. Puccinelli and Braeden Bowling hooked up on a third long TD play covering 29 yards in the third quarter. The Tigers' final TD pass of the day went to Austin Fernandez on a three-yard play. For the season, Puccinelli leads the ODAC in several passing categories including touchdowns (12), completion percentage (72.7%), yards (1,067), and yards per game (266.8). He is second in passing efficiency (188.4) and completions (80-of-110).

    • OFFENSE
      • Bridgewater running back Kennedy Fauntleroy churned out his fourth straight 100-yard game with 107 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries in the Eagles 24-10 win at Shenandoah. He continues to lead the ODAC in rushing yards (689).
      • Guilford quarterback Bailey Baker was 24-of-37 passing for 352 yards and three touchdowns against just one interception in the Quakers 48-25 loss at Washington and Lee.
      • Randolph-Macon quarterback Drew Campanale was 10-of-14 passing for 202 yards and two long touchdowns to David Wallis (57) and Zach Bowman (67).
      • Washington and Lee running back Jacob Romero ran for a career-high 133 yards and a touchdown, his third game with more than 100 yards on the ground this season. He led a Generals effort that racked up a season-best 410 yards rushing (6.1 per carry) in their 48-25 win over Guilford.
    • DEFENSE
      • Bridgewater linebacker Aaron Nice finished with a game-high 12 tackles (8 solo) with 3.0 for a loss in BC's 24-10 win over Shenandoah.
      • Guilford defensive back Adam Lacy led all ODAC players with 18 tackles in week six to go along with a blocked punt in the Quakers 48-25 loss at Washington and Lee.
      • Hampden-Sydney defensive end Tramell Thompson finished with a career-best and game-high 10 tackles with 0.5 sacks in the Tigers 48-10 win over Ferrum.
      • Washington and Lee linebacker Hunter Hawk led the Generals defense with nine tackles and a pass breakup in their 48-25 win over Guilford.
    • SPECIAL TEAMS
      • Bridgewater kicker Jack Hendren was 3-of-3 on PATs and connected on a 48-yard field goal to close the game's scoring. That marked the longest kick made in the ODAC this season tied with four other players for seventh-longest in ODAC history.
      • Ferrum kicker Seth Deaton booted a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter to give the Panthers their second lead of the game at 10-7 at Hampden-Sydney.
      • Guilford kicker Burke Nettles booted a 43-yard field goal to open the game's scoring at Washington and Lee.
      • Hampden-Sydney receiver Joseph Gonzalez returned the second-half kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown to give H-SC a 27-10 lead.
      • Randolph-Macon kicker Kyle Ihle registered 11 points against Averett in going 8-of-8 on PATs and a 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
    • GENERAL NOTES
      • Randolph-Macon has scored 50 or more points in each of its five games this season and 30 or more points in each of its past 23 games, the longest stretch in program history.
      • Washington and Lee racked up 410 yards on the ground against Guilford, a new season-high and the second time they have crossed 400 yards this season.
