FOREST, Va. --- The first tournament of the ODAC fall championship season is set following six men's soccer games on Wednesday evening. The University of Lynchburg, ranked 24th in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches, claims the ODAC regular season championship following its win at Shenandoah University, securing the top seed in the 2024 ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
Little was known about the potential tournament field when play began on Wednesday evening. Nine teams -- each active -- had a shot at a tournament position with all spots in the league table up for grabs.
Lynchburg's (7-1-2) 2-1 victory in the battle of the Hornets put them on 23 points, one marker clear of 21st-ranked Washington and Lee University (6-0-4) and Virginia Wesleyan University (7-2-1). The Generals earned a 3-1 road win at Randolph-Macon College (4-5-1), while the Marlins enjoyed a 2-0 result at Hampden-Sydney College (6-2-2). WLU will play as the #2 seed with its 1-0 head-to-head win over VWU this past Saturday breaking their tie via the first step in the conference's tiebreaking protocols.
Hampden-Sydney holds on to a top-four position despite its setback on Wednesday. The Tigers join Lynchburg, Washington and Lee, and Virginia Wesleyan as quarterfinal hosts on Saturday.
Roanoke College (5-2-3) improved its position with a 4-0 victory over Bridgewater College (3-5-2). The Maroons slot fifth in the final table and will travel to H-SC for quarterfinal play. The Tigers defeated RC, 2-0, during the regular season. Shenandoah (5-3-2) is the sixth seed, which affords the Hornets a date at Virginia Wesleyan to open the tournament in their first matchup of the season.
Randolph-Macon will travel to Washington and Lee in a rematch of Wednesday night's finale as the seventh seed. Eastern Mennonite University played its way into the field-capping eighth seed on Wednesday. The Royals recovered from a 2-0 deficit at Ferrum with two late goals to earn a tie with the Panthers. That put EMU on 11 points, tying them with Bridgewater following the Eagles loss at Roanoke. During the regular season, EMU defeated BC, 2-1, which awards the Royals the eighth seed in the bracket on tiebreakers. EMU will play at Lynchburg in the quarterfinals. They tied, 0-0, during the regular season.
