ODAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 6

ODAC women's soccer members are two or three games into their league slates. The beat goes on for Ferrum with the Panthers now 11-0 overall to continue the program's best start in its 38-year history. FC is one of three teams that are 2-0 to start ODAC play along with nationally 20th-ranked Washington and Lee and Virginia Wesleyan. Randolph is 1-0, while Lynchburg and Roanoke are 1-0-1 in their early outings. Randolph-Macon, which is 2-1-0 as the lone ODAC school to play three conference games so far, is the highest scoring team with 17 goals and four against in league play. Ferrum is #1 overall with 46 goals for and seven against.

    Franken, a graduate student from Peoria, Ill., collects her first ODAC weekly honor of the season after helping Guilford post a 1-0-1 week against conference foes. She did not feature in the Quakers 9-2 triumph at Hollins. But Franken made a huge difference in helping Guilford to a 0-0 draw against Bridgewater on the weekend. She earned her ODAC-best fifth clean sheet of the season – and 22nd of her career – in stopping six shots by the Eagles, including a save on a penalty kick in the 64th minute to help preserve the result. For the season, Franken is third in the ODAC in goals against average (.784) and save percentage (.844).

  • SARAH ZIMMERMAN | WASHINGTON AND LEE | JR | M/F | CINCINNATI, OHIO
    Zimmerman, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, picks up her first ODAC weekly honor of the season after posting an eight-point week to help nationally 20th-ranked Washington and Lee post a pair of victories last week. In a non-conference tilt at Lynchburg, Zimmerman put a foot on all three Generals goals in a 3-2 triumph. She notched WLU's first goal in the 31st minute. In the second half, she assisted Emily Burke in the 47th minute before supplying the scoring feed on the game-winner to her sister, Megan Zimmerman, in the 54th minute. Sarah Zimmerman was back on the scoreboard with a pair of second half goals in a 4-1 win over Randolph-Macon on the weekend. Her tallies came in the 52nd and 54th minutes. For the season, Zimmerman has scored four goals and dished out three assists to account for 11 points.

    • EMU - Esme Cardoso-Rodriguez (Fr., Forward)
      Scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Randolph.
    • EMU - Aja Laun (Sr., GK)
      Recorded a shutout against Randolph with 15 saves for the week across two matches. Made eight saves in the win over Randolph and seven in a 4-0 loss to Va. Wesleyan.
    • Ferrum - Bri Bitz (Gr., F)
      Contributed three goals and two assists in two wins. Scored one goal and one assist against Regent and two goals with one assist versus Hollins.
    • Ferrum - Ashli Wuss (Jr., GK)
      Played 110 minutes over two games with three saves, helping the team to two wins without conceding any goals.
    • Guilford - Trinity Robinson (Fr., M)
      Scored two goals and one assist in a 9-2 victory over Hollins.
    • Lynchburg, Meredith Bowers (Sr., GK)
      Collected 12 saves in two matches, with a .700 save percentage against Washington & Lee and a .833 save percentage against Roanoke.
    • Lynchburg, Sammie Rogstad (Fy., M/D)
      Scored one goal and provided one assist across two matches, with a crucial goal in a 1-1 draw against Roanoke.
    • Randolph-Macon - Lauren Brokaw (Jr., F)
      Assisted both goals in the team’s games this week, extending her assist streak to four matches.
    • Randolph-Macon - Erin Morris (Jr., GK)
      Made eight saves in a 1-1 draw with Salisbury in a 90-minute shift
    • Shenandoah - McKenna Newcome (Fr., Midfield)
      Scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 victory over Averett.
