ODAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 3

ODAC teams stayed hot in week three of the season, going 12-5 overall against non-conference opponents. Averett and Ferrum are 4-0 and joined in the ranks of the unbeaten by 3-0 Randolph. Roanoke is now 4-1 after winning the first conference game of the season against Washington and Lee. Nationally 23rd-ranked Hampden-Sydney joins AU, FC, and RC with four wins for most in the ODAC so far this season.

  • ALEX CANNON | HAMPDEN-SYDNEY | SO | C | LOGANVILLE, GA.
    Cannon, a sophomore center from Loganville, Ga., registered nine blocked shots to go with a pair of steals and eight of his 10 boards via the defensive glass to help 23rd-ranked Hampden-Sydney to a 2-1 week against non-conference foes. Cannon opened with three blocked shots and five defensive rebounds in the Tigers 74-71 triumph at Christopher Newport University. He then turned away five shots in Hampden-Sydney's 96-67 win over Pfeiffer in the opening game of the Hampden-Sydney Tip-Off Tournament. He added a steal, four rebounds (3 defensive), and five points. Cannon continued his run of games with at least one blocked shot to three straight with a block and a steal in an 81-78 setback to Gettysburg College, which is receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com top-25 poll. He added four points and a rebound to his line.

    Brazil, a fifth-year guard from Mooresville, N.C., continued his early season hot streak of scoring with three 20-plus point games including his second 30-point outing of the season in helping 23rd-ranked Hampden-Sydney to a 2-1 week. Brazil, who scored 75 points and dished out nine assists over three games, opened with 22 points and three dimes in a 74-71 road win at Christopher Newport. He was 9-of-20 from the field and buried a trio of three-pointers to go with five boards and a pair of steals. In a 96-67 win over Pfeiffer, Brazil dropped in 23 points on 9-of-13 from the field. He canned all four of his foul shots and handed out a pair of assists. He pulled down one rebound and came away with one steal. In an 81-78 setback to Gettysburg College – which is receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com top-25 poll – Brazil scored 30 points to go with four assists. He nailed 11 field goals including three from downtown and went 5-of-6 from the stripe. He added six rebounds (2 offensive) and two steals. He was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Hampden-Sydney Tip-Off Tournament. For the season, Brazil leads the ODAC in scoring (25.2) as one of only two players in the conference to average more than 20 points per game in the early going.
