ODAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 5

ODAC men's basketball was dominated by conference games in week five with all but two of 13 games between league members. Three teams are currently 2-0 in conference play led by Ferrum at 7-0 overall. Nationally 12th-ranked Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan have also won their first two ODAC games. Like in the women's ranks, men's basketball features 10 programs with at least a .500 winning percentage.

  • PAUL ANDERSON | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | SO | G | LORTON, VA.
    Anderson, a sophomore guard from Lorton Va., helped Virginia Wesleyan start its ODAC slate with nine combined steals over two league victories. In a 63-52 home win over Eastern Mennonite, Anderson pulled down four boards with a pair via the defensive glass to go with five steals. He chipped in three points and a pair of assists on the offensive end. In a 67-50 road win at Averett, Anderson again helped the Marlins keep an opponent under 60 points with four more steals to go with a pair of rebounds. He added four points to VWU's offense. Anderson is currently fourth in the ODAC in steals per game (2.1) and fifth in overall steals (15).

    Brazil, a fifth-year guard from Mooresville, N.C., collects his third ODAC weekly award of the season after helping nationally 12th-ranked Hampden-Sydney improve to 3-0 in league play with ODAC wins over Roanoke and at Randolph-Macon, both of which are receiving votes towards the latest D3hoops.com top-25 poll. The latter win, when combined with H-SC's 84-77 home triumph on November 13, marks the first time the Tigers have swept a regular season series against Randolph-Macon since 2013. Brazil started his week with his second straight and fourth overall game of 30-plus points with 31 markers in an 85-80 win over the Maroons. He was 8-of-19 from the field and buried all 13 of his foul shots. He added four assists, two rebounds, and two steals. At Randolph-Macon, Brazil poured in 25 points on 8-of-12 from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line. He has now made his last 22 free throws over the past three games. For the season Brazil leads the ODAC in scoring (26.0) and is second in free throws made (45) and fourth in free throw shooting (.900). His scoring average is tied for fourth in Division III.

    • Gabriel Campbell, EMU: 10 rebounds (6 def.) with 2 assists in a 63-52 loss at VWU; 4 points with 6 boards in a 76-66 loss to Southern Virginia
    • Charles Tate III, FC: 6 points with 2 boards in a 66-54 win over Averett; 15 points (3-of-4 from 3pt) with 4 boards, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots in a 93-61 win over Lynchburg
    • Bryant Wall, FC: 10 points with 5 boards, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots in a 66-54 win over Averett; 11 points with 8 boards (6 def), 2 assists, and 3 blocked shots in a 93-61 win over Lynchburg
    • Nick Farrar, GC: 14 points with 6 rebounds and 2 assists in an 86-55 loss at Randolph-Macon; 26 points (10-of-18 FG) with 11 boards (7 def) in a 91-82 win at Randolph

    • Jabril Robinson, RMC: 11 points with 5 assists in an 86-55 win over #17 Guilford; 20 points (4 3FGM) with 3 boards and 2 assists in a 79-72 loss to #12 Hampden-Sydney
    • Joshua Cleary, RC: career-high 31 points on 10-of-17 shooting including 8-of-10 from 3-point with 7 boards (5 def), 6 assists, and 2 steals in an 85-80 loss at #12 Hampden-Sydney
    • Khai Seargeant, VWU: 18 points (3-of-6 from 3pt) with 2 boards in a 63-52 win over EMU; 13 points with 3 boards and 2 assists in a 67-50 win at Averett
