ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament Field Revealed

Washington and Lee Tops 10-Team Bracket, Play Starts on Tuesday

FOREST, Va. --- Reigning ODAC champion Washington and Lee University won for the eighth straight time on Saturday afternoon to close the regular season atop the conference table and earn the #1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Generals (23-2 overall, 17-1 ODAC) lone loss in league play came to Shenandoah University (19-6, 14-4), their opponent in last season's league championship game. The Hornets were the seventh seed last season, but open this year's tournament as the second seed.

The final standings featured just one tie and it involved three teams vying for seed three through five. Bridgewater College (17-7), Guilford College (18-6), and Randolph-Macon College (17-8) each finished 13-5 in ODAC play. The first step in the conference tiebreaking protocol -- head-to-head results -- sorted through the stalemate. RMC went 2-1 against BC and GC, awarding the Yellow Jackets the third seed. Bridgewater went 2-2 against RMC and GC, securing the fourth seed for the Eagles. The Quakers will play as the fifth seed after going 1-2 against RMC and BC.

The remaining positions in the bracket were earned outright. Roanoke College (16-9, 11-7) earns the final bye to Salem as the sixth seed, while the University of Lynchburg (14-11, 9-9) and Randolph College (15-10, 8-10) make the Hill City the home of the ODAC first round contests on Tuesday as the seventh and eighth seeds, respectively. Ferrum College (10-15, 7-11) and Eastern Mennonite University (11-14, 6-12) round out the 10-team bracket as the ninth and 10th seeds, respectively.

Competition begins in the first round on Tuesday, February 20, with two contests on the seventh and eighth seeds' campuses. Quarterfinal action opens on Friday, February 23, with all four contests at the ODAC's traditional tournament home, the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va. Both semifinals will be conducted on Saturday, February 24, with the championship on Sunday, February 25. All three of those games will also be played in the SCC.
