ODAC Baseball Report: Week 5

  • GARDNER MEEKS | ROANOKE | SR. | RP | VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.
    Meeks, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., made two relief appearances accounting for 7.0 scoreless innings on the hill in picking up two wins in the Maroons 4-1 week. Meeks picked up his first win of the week by firing the final two frames in a 5-3 victory over Centenary (N.J.). He did not allow a run and gave up two hits without a walk. He struck out a pair. Meeks' stay on the mound in the Maroons 12-3 win over EMU was much longer as he entered in the fifth inning and promptly tossed 5.0 two-hit shutout frames to collect another win. He again did not walk a batter and fanned four. He did hit two batters in the eighth inning, but left both stranded. He also enjoyed a stretch of six straight out at one point during his appearance.

  • JONATHAN FRENCH | WASHINGTON AND LEE | FY. | CF | ATLANTA, GA.
    French, a first-year from Atlanta, Ga., was an on-base machine and pest for opposing batteries once on the basepaths as he helped Washington and Lee secure a sweep of Averett University (8-7, 16-7) over the weekend. The Cougars managed to retire French just one time as he went 6-for-7 in official at bats and reached base in 8-of-9 total plate appearances on way to an .857 batting average and .889 OBP. He also drove in three runs, scored five times, and stole five bags. In game one, French went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. His speed helped manufacture the Generals all important eighth run as he reached on a bunt single and stole both second and third before scoring on a one-out double by Ethan Zulueta. In game two, French reached base five times as he went 3-for-3 with a pair of walks. He also scored three times, drove in three runs, and stole three bases.

      • vs. #12 LYN (7-6 in 10 inn.): 1 run on 2 hits with 4 walks and 5 K's in 4.0 IP towards a no-decision
    • BC infielder Nick Stavros – So. | Stony Point, N.Y.
      • vs. Mary Baldwin (15-4): 3-for-3 with a homer, walk, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored
