ODAC Softball Report: Week 4

  • MAKAYLA CYZICK | EMU | GR. | SP | DAYTON, VA.
    Cyzick, a graduate student from Dayton, Va., went the distance in both ends of a road doubleheader sweep at Southern Virginia University, including a 5-0 shutout in game one. EMU won game two, 4-1, to secure the second of the Royals first two victories of the season. In 14.0 innings of work, Cyzick allowed 1 run while scattering 11 hits. She did not walk or hit a batter and fanned eight overall. In game one, Cyzick twirled a four-hit shutout with seven punchouts. She retired the first nine Knights she faced including three by strikeout. In game two, Cyzick worked around seven hits while still throwing fewer than 85 pitches for the second straight start.

  • SARAH WATTS | LYNCHBURG | SO. | 2B | SOUTH BOSTON, VA.
    Watts, a sophomore from South Boston, Va., was perfect from the dish in Lynchburg's sweep (3-0, 4-3) of Pacific Lutheran University to improve the Hornets record to 6-0 to start the season. Watts went 6-for-6 over the two games with four extra-base hits, four RBI, and three runs scored. In game one, she went 3-for-3 with a double. She drove in two runs with a single in the sixth inning. In game two, Watts again went 3-for-3 with all three knocks going for extra bases. She belted a pair of solo homers, the first a line shot to right that tied the game 1-1 in the second inning. Her fourth inning homer was a towering blast to left that gave Lynchburg a 3-1 lead. With the score tied in the bottom of the seventh, Watts doubled to left-center and then trotted home with the game-winning run on Alex Dinardo's pinch-hit single.

      • vs. WPI (6-1): 0 runs on 5 hits with 0 walks and 11 K's in a complete 7.0 IP to earn the win
      • vs. WPI (5-5): 0 runs on 1 hits with 0 walks and 3 K's in 1.0 IP in a no-decision
