FOREST, Va. --- Exciting postseason baseball has become a staple for the ODAC culminating in a national championship run for the University of Lynchburg in 2023. The process begins anew next week with the announcement of the eight teams that qualified for the 2024 ODAC Baseball Tournament.
The next two weekends will feature some of the best teams in the country playing for not only the ODAC trophy, but an automatic entry into the NCAA Tournament and a chance to double-up on Lynchburg's success last season. The top-four ODAC seeds will host best-of-3 series on their campuses next weekend. The four teams advancing teams -- reseeded if necessary depending on results -- will travel to Tysons, Va., for a double-elimination showdown at Capital One Park, a new state-of-the-art facility featuring a turf playing surface, full stadium amenities for players and fans alike, and a vibrant surrounding area to add to the experience.
Schedules for opening weekend games will be finalized early this week as teams work game schedules around possible graduation ceremonies. All games of each series will be competed Friday-Sunday, May 3-5, unless weather forces additional adjustments. Games are intended to be played on back-to-back days with one game on the first day and a second along with a possible third winner-take-all contest on day two.
Games at Capital One Park will be conducted Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11. Each team will play once on Thursday with three games on Friday with at least one contest on Saturday. A possible winner-take-all title game would also be played on Saturday depending on the previous results in the double-elimination format.
Randolph-Macon College (25-11 overall, 16-6 ODAC) stands atop the ODAC table with Roanoke College (22-18, 15-7) pulling off a Saturday sweep of the Yellow Jackets to jump into the second seed. Shenandoah University (25-13, 14-8) won the league's final regular season game on Sunday to secure the third seed.
The determination of the final opening weekend series location came down to tiebreakers. Defending champion Lynchburg (25-14, 13-9) and Bridgewater College (25-14, 13-9) posted identical records. They split their regular season series, sending their stalemate to the conference's second tie breaking step, the ODAC Five-Point Tiebreaker. The Hornets came out ahead of the Eagles by five points in a comparison of the two schools' schedules, awarding Lynchburg the fourth seed and opening weekend hosting privileges against fifth-seeded Bridgewater.
Guilford College (20-20, 12-10) occupies sixth position, while Virginia Wesleyan University (20-17, 11-11) returns to the ODAC baseball postseason for the first time since 2019 as the seventh seed. Washington and Lee University (16-17, 10-12) caps the field as the eighth seed.
Below is a preliminary schedule for the upcoming ODAC Baseball Tournament. Be sure to stay tuned for updates to the league schedule with confirmed game dates and times and live links for video and statistics.
