ODAC Men's Tennis Tournament Field Set

Eight-Team Bracket Featured Three Tied Scenarios

FOREST, Va. --- Sifting through the results of ODAC men's tennis was a chore on Sunday afternoon with the league's regular season schedule coming to a close in prelude to the ODAC Men's Tennis Championship. Three different tied scenarios played a significant part in setting the eight-team field, including one stalemate that required the final step of the conference's tiebreaking protocols.

Free from tiebreakers are the event's top-two seeds. Washington and Lee University marched through the ODAC's unbalanced schedule with a 9-0 mark, just ahead of second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University at 8-1.

Averett University and Shenandoah University tied for third at 7-2. The Cougars defeated the Hornets, 8-1, during the regular season, satisfying the first step in the tie breaking procedure. AU will play as the third seed with SU claiming fourth position. They will be joined by WLU and VWU in hosting quarterfinal matches on Tuesday.

The tie between Guilford College and the University of Lynchburg for the fifth and sixth slots was much more involved. They did not play each other in the ODAC regular season, so head-to-head results were skipped. There was no difference in the ODAC five-point tiebreaker and the top-down comparison, which are steps two and three of the procedure. That left drawn lots to definitively crack the stalemate. In consulting the numbers drawn before the 2023-24 academic year began, Guilford featured a higher-ranked selection than Lynchburg, awarding the Quakers the fifth seed and the Hornets sixth position.

The final two seeds were determined by head-to-head tiebreakers. Randolph College and Hampden-Sydney College tied at 4-5 in ODAC play. The WildCats defeated the Tigers, 5-4, in their matchup, earning Randolph the seventh seed with Hampden-Sydney capping the field as the eighth seed.

Play begins with quarterfinal action on the 1-4 seeds campuses on Tuesday, April 30. The semifinals and championship will be hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5.
