All-ODAC Women's Lacrosse Award Announced

WLU Earns Three Special Individual Honors, Roanoke Collects Two

FOREST, Va. --- ODAC champion Washington and Lee University and fellow Division III tournament qualifiers Roanoke College and Shenandoah University each saw eight players earn recognition on an all-conference team to highlight the 2024 All-ODAC Women's Lacrosse Awards.

Generals defender Eugenie Rovegno is now a three-time ODAC Defensive Player of the Year honoree after garnering that distinction for a third straight season. Teammates Hanna Bishop and Ginny Taylor also took home special individual awards as the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year and ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year, respectively. Roanoke mentor Erica Brown received ODAC Coach of the Year plaudits from her peers, while fellow Maroon Maddie McDonald was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year.

ODAC women's lacrosse honors 38 players between the All-ODAC First Team and All-ODAC Second Team. Twenty-three award winners from last season's all-league lists appear on this year's charts including 14 members of the first team.

Rovegno and Bishop are joined by teammate Shannon Timoney as repeat first teamers. Roanoke features three on the first team for second year running in Libby BowmanSophia Chickering, and Addison Schmidt. Shenandoah's Madison Re and Juliana Fohner along with Randolph-Macon's Taylor Mittelstadter cap the list of repeat first team selections.

Lynchburg's Meredith Bornholdt moved up from last year's second team, a distinction that also includes Roanoke's Grace Koutouzis, Shenandoah's Ainsley Buckner and Emily Lerch, and WLU's Walker McKnight.

Rovegno, a senior from Duxbury, Mass., is the first three-time player of the year of any kind in ODAC women's lacrosse history. The reigning IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week for her work during the ODAC Tournament, Rovegno spearheaded a Generals defensive unit that allowed an ODAC-low 127 goals in 19 games entering the ODAC Tournament. Rovegno is second in the ODAC in draw controls with 97 and third in caused turnovers with 37. She is tied for eighth with 39 ground balls. Against ODAC foes, Rovegno forced 20 miscues and collected 34 draws to go along with 18 ground balls. For her career at Washington and Lee, Rovegno has racked up a program-record 275 draw controls with 143 ground balls and 105 caused turnovers, the latter figure ranking third in WLU history. Her 97 draw controls this season are 12 off the single-season program record.

Bishop, a senior from Bronxville, N.Y., has been a strong playmaker and goal scorer for a Generals offense that has posted 298 goals entering the NCAA Tournament. Bishop ranks top-five in each major offensive category. She is third in points with 84 and assists with 33 and ranks fifth in goals scored with 51. In ODAC play, Bishop registered 37 points on 22 goals and 15 assists. Bishop scored at least one goal in each of 19 games played with a season-best five goals towards a season-high seven points in mid-March in at Bridgewater. She currently boasts career totals of 291 points powered by 216 goals and 75 assists, making her #1 in points and goals scored in WLU women's lacrosse history. She is the only player in Generals lacrosse history - men or women - to score 200 or more goals.

Brown is in the midst of her second season at Roanoke and 14th overall as a collegiate head coach. This is her first ODAC top coaching award. Brown owns a 139-105 (.570) record entering the NCAA Tournament, including a 31-8 (.795) with the Maroons. Roanoke is currently the 12th-ranked team in Division III in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll. RC finished as the ODAC runner-up for a fourth straight season, falling by one goal to Washington and Lee on Sunday. The Maroons season will continue with the upcoming NCAA Tournament, the program's 12th overall and third straight appearance on the national stage.

McDonald, a first-year from Swampscott, Mass., has been a stalwart in the Maroons' midfield, starting all but one of 19 games. Entering the NCAA Tournament, McDonald has collected 30 points on 28 goals and two assists. She has also notched 56 draw controls, 11 ground balls, and two caused turnovers. In ODAC play, she registered 18 points on 16 goals and two assists with 26 draw controls. McDonald posted at least one point in all but two games played with a season-best five points on four goals and one assist in a win at Averett. She was strong in the ODAC Tournament with two goals each in the semifinals and championship.

Taylor, a senior from Madison, N.J., shines on and off the field for the seventh-ranked Generals. In the classroom, Taylor maintains a 3.965 grade point average as a business administration major. The three-time President's List and W&L Scholar-Athlete award winner was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in 2023. She is a member of the Williams Investment Society, which manages $20 million of WLU's endowment in equity securities. She has worked at CitiGroup as a sales and trading summer analyst the past two summers and will be working for CitiGroup upon graduation. Taylor coaches summer lacrosse with STEPS in New Jersey and was the 2021-22 Generals Leadership Academy team representative. She is a three-year member of 24 -- WLU's version of SAAC.

On the field, Taylor has started all 19 games for Washington and Lee this season as a strong two-way midfielder. She has collected 19 points on 18 goals and one assist while also notching 17 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, and two draw controls. In 72 career games played, Taylor has registered 73 points on 62 goals and 11 assists. She has picked up 43 ground balls with 41 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers.
