VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- Virginia Wesleyan University Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Andrea Hoover-Erbig is proud to announce Stephen Register as the new Director of Men's/Women's Cross Country and Track & Field.
Register joins VWU from Concordia University where he was the Head Track and Field/Cross Country Coach. He was also a recruiting consultant for Rome City Institute and the Owner/Strength & Conditioning Coach for Register Fitness, a training program for clients of all ages and abilities to assist in reaching their potential.
Register began his coaching career as a volunteer and adjunct professor at his alma mater of Belmont from 2012-2014. He then became an associate head coach at Cumberland University in 2015 where he helped build a new track and field program with 46 student-athletes in the inaugural season. He then found his way to Muhlenberg College in 2021 as an assistant track and field coach for sprints and hurdles.
Hoover-Erbig is excited about the wealth of experience and knowledge Register brings to VWU, while Register has big aspirations for the VWU program.
"Virginia Wesleyan University has championship DNA flowing through its veins. Our goal for the Cross Country and Track and Field teams at VWU is just that: to win championships and win them quickly," said Register. "With the premier geographical location of the Coastal Virginia area, a top-notch Track and Field facility, scenic cross country trails, and an elite athletics culture of the surrounding community, VWU is a shining opportunity for success within the D3 world. I'm grateful beyond measure for this opportunity and, to say the least, I do not take these responsibilities lightly."
Register earned his B.A. in Religion from Belmont University and Master of Divinity at Yale. Before his collegiate journey, he was a Personal Administrative Sergeant of the Tennessee Army National Guard where he was granted 16 honors and awards and was honorably discharged in 2009.
