ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 7

Eight of the 12 games played by ODAC men's soccer teams were part of their conference slates. Nationally 18th-ranked Lynchburg won twice to run their streak to nine wins in a row and have yet to be beaten this season at 10-0-2 overall. A logjam appears to be forming at the top of the league table with Lynchburg on 12 points followed by Bridgewater and Washington and Lee at 10 each with No. 21 Hampden-Sydney on eight markers. Randolph-Macon may have opened some eyes with a win over previously-ranked Virginia Wesleyan, while Shenandoah earned a draw with H-SC.

  • ANIBAL LOPEZ | AVERETT | GOALKEEPER
Lopez, a senior from Vigo, Spain, picks up his second ODAC weekly award after making 15 saves over two games to help Averett to a 1-0-1 week against ODAC competition. In a 1-0 shutout over Roanoke on Wednesday, Lopez made nine stops including a critical save on a penalty kick to keep the game scoreless before the Cougars eventually scored the game-winner. This was the third PK that Lopez saved this season. On Saturday, Lopez made a half-dozen saves on the way to a 2-2 draw at Bridgewater. One of the Eagles' goals was a converted penalty kick. Lopez faced 46 total shots on the week with an .882 save percentage. For the season, Lopez leads the ODAC in saves (71) and saves per game (6.45). He is fourth in save percentage (.798).

  • GRAYSON WOODS | RANDOLPH-MACON | MIDFIELDER
Woods, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., was on the mark with a late-winner to help Randolph-Macon post a 1-0-1 week against ODAC foes. On Wednesday, Woods broke a 0-0 stalemate in just 5:30 play as a long throw Damien Jackson was nodded off the crossbar by Bryce Kuberek with Woods knocking the carom home for a 1-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan, which was receiving votes towards the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. Randolph-Macon tied Guilford, 2-2, on the road to move the Yellow Jackets to 1-1-2 on the season and tied with EMU and Shenandoah on five points in the league table. For the season, Woods has scored six goals to account for his 12 points.

    • Averett midfielder Joshua Garcia scored the game's lone goal in a 1-0 win over Roanoke.
    • Bridgewater forward Trey Widrick scored one of the Eagles' goals in a 2-2 draw with Averett.
    • EMU forward Yan Cesar scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Randolph.
    • Guilford defender Zach Pless helped the Quakers defense surrender just one goal at Southern Virginia (W, 1-0) and versus Randolph-Macon (T, 1-1).
    • Lynchburg keeper Thomas Viscuso made five total saves as the Hornets ran their winning streak to nine straight games with victories over Messiah (5-1) and Virginia Wesleyan (1-0).
    • Randolph-Macon keeper Ethan Chenoweth registered six combined saves in a win (1-0) over Virginia Wesleyan and a draw (1-1) at Guilford.
