FOREST, Va. --- The first set of announced All-ODAC awards from the fall season belongs to field hockey with nationally-ranked programs
University of Lynchburg (8),
Shenandoah University (9), and
Washington and Lee University (8) garnering 25 honors on the annual awards chart determined by the league's head coaches.
Three schools are represented in five special individual accolades. Lynchburg mentor
Jenni Releford received ODAC Coach of the Year recognition from her peers, while her top attacker, forward
Anna Dorrestijn, earned ODAC Offensive Player of the Year laurels.
Randolph-Macon College keeper
Valentina Ambrogi-Torres secured ODAC Defensive Player of the Year plaudits. Shenandoah boasts the final two honors with forward
Reagan Flory collecting ODAC Rookie of the Year honors and defender
Madison Short being selected as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the conference's athletic communications personnel.
The ODAC's list of 39 stars includes 20 players that appeared on the 2024 awards chart. Of that latter group, nine appear on this season's All-ODAC First Team. Dorrestijn is joined by midfielder
Allie Freeman and defender
Khanyisile Mzizi from Lynchburg as repeat first teamers. The same can be said of defenders
Jade Buckles and
Camryn DeLeva from
Bridgewater College and Shenandoah, respectively. SU midfielder
Claudia Lenahan and Short moved up from the All-ODAC Second Team, a feat also accomplished by Ambrogi-Torres and WLU forward
Sydney Baggett.
Eight members of this year's second team earned awards last year. Lynchburg midfielder
Maddie Schuchter and defender
Olivia Muir along with WLU forward
Betty Boatwright, midfielder
Zoe Dolfis, and defender
Jordan Hoover each earned a spot on this team last season.
Virginia Wesleyan University forward
Landry Meyer moves up from the All-ODAC Third Team along with BC midfielder
Mollie Best and Lynchburg midfielder
Aurora Balsamo.
Three standouts appear on the third team for a second straight season. That group includes defenders
Riley Chandler and
Katherine Seal from Bridgewater and
Roanoke College as well as Washington and Lee midfielder
Anne Burns Fiveash.
Dorrestijn enters the Division III Field Hockey Championship as the ODAC leader in points (56) and goals scored (21). She is second in assists (14). She earned three ODAC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.
Releford earns her first ODAC top coaching honor in just her second season after spending several seasons as an assistant with the Hornets' program. She leads her squad into the 28-team NCAA bracket having won 78-percent of the games she has coached, boasting a 32-9 overall record.
Ambrogi-Torres garnered a record five ODAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades this year and capped that with the program's first NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week award on November 5. Ambrogi-Torres is the ODAC leader in save percentage (.876) and shutouts (7). She sits second in goals against average (1.142) and saves (155).
Flory made an immediate impact on Shenandoah's attack. She led the squad and sits second in the ODAC in points (39) and goals scored (17) to go with five assists. Twice she was honored as the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Short stars on and off the field for Shenandoah, combining the ODAC/VAFB Scholar-Athlete award with an All-ODAC First Team nod. She came forward to register 18 points (7 goals, 4 assists) and helped the SU defense allow just 30 goals for a 1.58 per-game average this season. In the classroom, the senior exercise science major boasts a 3.925 grade point average and is a first-year student in the SU Doctor of Occupational Therapy program.
