All-ODAC Women's Soccer Awards Announced

WLU Joins BC with Eight All-League Honorees, Commands All Five Special Individual Awards

FOREST, Va. --- The ODAC’s three Division III Championship qualifying programs garnered a combined 22 all-conference awards to headline the 2025 All-ODAC Women’s Soccer Awards. League champion Washington and Lee University and Bridgewater College lead the list with eight stars honored each, while conference runner-up Virginia Wesleyan University saw six Marlins named to one of three all-league squads.

The nationally ninth-ranked Generals commanded all five special individual honors with midfielder Sarah Zimmerman not only collecting her second straight ODAC Player of the Year award from the league’s head coaches, but also receiving ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition from the conference’s athletic communications personnel. Center back Bryn Bissinger now owns two ODAC Defensive Player of the Year awards, while WLU mentor Tiffany Pins has now won three ODAC Coach of the Year plaques from her peers. Generals outside midfielder Mary Parrish Green garnered ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels.

The ODAC's list of 39 stars includes 16 players that appeared on the 2024 awards chart. Of that latter group, eight appear on this season's All-ODAC First Team. Zimmerman and Bissinger are joined by midfielder Megan Zimmerman and center back Sydney Devory as Generals repeating on the first team. Bridgewater forward Lyric Birkley also received a second straight top-team nod. Fellow Eagles midfielder Katherine King and forward Laura Narby moved up from the 2024 All-ODAC Second Team and All-ODAC Third Team, respectively. Shenandoah University forward McKenna Newcome also jumped up from last year’s third team.

On the 2025 second team, an additional seven players see their names on an awards list for at least a second straight season. University of Lynchburg midfielder Laura Orner was a first team choice last year, which can also be said of Randolph-Macon College forward Ally Spangler and Roanoke College forward Rebecca Carr. VWU striker Shyenne Diaz and Lynchburg defender Sammie Rogstad were both second team picks a season ago, while Marlins defender Alex Ortega and SU midfielder Lauren Duffy appeared on the third team.

This season’s third team features one returning award winner with Guilford College defender Kylee Berry back on the list after picking up second team recognition in 2024.

Sarah Zimmerman stars on and off the field for Washington and Lee. The now three-time All-ODAC First Team choice enters the NCAA Tournament as the ODAC’s leader in goals scored (15) and is fourth in points (34). Twice she scored big goals in the ODAC tournament, notching the winner in overtime in the semifinals against Bridgewater and tallying the tying goal in the final against Virginia Wesleyan that eventually needed eight rounds of penalty kicks to determine who would lift the 2025 trophy.

In the classroom, Zimmerman maintains a 3.887 grade point average as a mathematics and business administration double-major. She is a six-time W&L Scholar-Athlete who earned United Soccer Coaches First Team Scholar All-America laurels in 2024. The Phi Eta Sigma honor society inductee has post-graduate plans of working for Wells Fargo as an investment banking analyst on the mergers and acquisitions team.

Bissinger, a two-time All-ODAC First Team choice, is the first two-time honoree of the ODAC Defensive Player of the Year award since the honor was created in 2022. In addition to getting forward to register 11 points on two goals and seven assists, Bissinger spearheaded a defensive unit that has allowed just eight goals this season for a 0.40 per-game average. That has helped Washington and Lee post a 3.00 per-game goal margin.

Pins is in her fourth season guiding the Generals program and 15th year overall as a collegiate women’s soccer head coach. This year’s honor marks her second straight and third overall ODAC top coaching plaudit. WLU has claimed two straight conference trophies and appeared in each of the past three league title games. Pins enters the NCAA Tournament with a 63-10-2 (.812) record in Lexington and a 196-62-39 (.726) mark overall.

Green has experienced a tale of two seasons. A defender by trade, she was moved to midfield once the conference season began and thrived in her new role along the right wing. Greens, who is also a third team selection, enters the NCAA postseason with 12 points on two goals and eight assists.
