ODAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 2

ODAC women's basketball is making a push for a larger showcase on the national scene with 10 of the conference's 12 squads featuring .500 or better records plus a few nationally-ranked victories. Sixth-ranked Washington and Lee (5-0) is joined by Lynchburg (3-0), Guilford (2-0), and Shenandoah (2-0) with unbeaten marks. SU and Bridgewater (2-1) both earned ranked wins over the past week, taking down No. 19 Catholic and No. 20 Christopher Newport, respectively.

    Garcia, a senior from Harrisonburg, Va., did a lot of everything during Bridgewater's 2-1 week that included a 1-1 showing at the Bridgewater Invitational Presented by Heritage Hospitality Management. Garcia averaged 11.3 points and 10.3 rebounds with 12 assists, four steals, and two blocked shots. On Wednesday against Mary Baldwin University, Garcia went for 10 points and 12 rebounds (9 defensive) in the Eagles' 74-37 triumph. She added two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot to her line. Then in game one of the Bridgewater Invitational on Saturday, Garcia notched her second double-double with 11 points and 10 boards (all defensive) in the Eagles' 71-65 upset of No. 20 Christopher Newport University. She also handed out six assists and a blocked shot. On Sunday in a 68-48 loss to No. 19 Catholic University, Garcia registered 13 points and nine rebounds (8 defensive) with four assists and two steals.

  • EMILY WILLIAMS | SHENANDOAH | GUARD
    Williams, a senior from Thurmont, Md., filled up the stat sheet in leading Shenandoah to a 2-0 week with the latter of the two wins marking head coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's 150th career victory (150-138 (.521) in her 12th season). Williams posted a pair of double-doubles beginning with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 62-59 triumph over No. 19 Catholic University. Williams scored the final four points of the game, including the jumper to give SU a 60-59 edge and then two free throws to ice the game. She was 6-of-8 from the field and 9-of-12 from the line with five of her rebounds coming via the offensive glass. She chipped in two assists and a steal. On Saturday in a 75-57 win at Wilson College, Williams registered 14 points and 10 more rebounds (4 offensive) to go with five assists and three steals. She was 7-of-13 from the field.

    • Averett guard DaiShaundria Giggetts averaged 15.0 points and 3.7 boards with 9 steals in the Cougars three-game week.
    • Bridgewater guard Riley Corcoran averaged 16.3 points and shot 21-of-42 from the field with 8 steals in the Eagles' 2-1 week that included a 71-65 win over No. 20 CNU.
    • EMU guard Grace Burke drilled 11 3-pointers on the way to averaging 13.3 points and 7.0 rebounds with 4 steals in the Royals' 2-1 week. Forward Kaylene Todd averaged 5.3 points and 6.7 rebounds with 7 steals and 2 blocked shots.
    • Guilford guard Julianna Walter averaged 16.5 points and 4.5 rebounds to go with 9 assists and 12 steals in the Quakers' 2-0 week. Forward Anna Giannopoulou averaged 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds with 7 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocked shots.
    • Hollins post Gracie Huffard averaged 8.0 points and 10.5 boards with 3 steals and 4 blocked shots in HU's 1-1 week. Guard Zaria Holden averaged 18.0 points and 3.0 boards with 7 assists and 3 steals.
    • Lynchburg forward Taylor Brown averaged a double-double at 11.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the Hornets' 2-0 week. Guard Kate Littlejohn averaged 15.5 points with 6 assists and 5 steals.
    • Randolph guard Maddie Pabon averaged 15.0 points and 6.5 rebounds while drilling 6 3-pointers and posting 5 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocked shots in the WildCats 1-1 week.
    • Roanoke guard Ashley Fowler cashed in 12-of-26 shots from deep on the way to averaging 15.7 points to go with 7.7 rebounds in the Maroons' 2-1 week.
    • Virginia Wesleyan forward Brianna Long averaged a double-double at 19.7 points (21-of-30 on FTs) and 14.7 rebounds (22 offensive boards) with seven steals in the Marlins' 2-1 week. Point guard Maesyn Blayock averaged 6.7 points with 5 assists and 9 steals.
    • Washington and Lee forward Mary Schleusner averaged 13.7 points and 11.7 boards with 10 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocked shots in the No. 6 Generals' 3-0 week.
