ODAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 5

ODAC women's basketball teams competed in a dozen games in a return to full action. That included 11 league games as all programs have now played in two of their 16 conference games. Five squads are 2-0 in those outings including Bridgewater, Guilford, Randolph-Macon, Shenandoah, and No. 8 Washington and Lee. Both the Generals and Quakers are 7-0 with the Eagles and Hornets at 7-1. RMC and Hollins are sitting at 6-2 overall.

  • ANNA GIANNOPOULOU | GUILFORD | FORWARD
    Giannopoulou, a senior from Athens, Greece, stood out on both ends of the floor to help Guilford improve to 7-0 on the season with three victories last week. Giannopoulou averaged 18.7 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 57.1-percent. She added five assists, six steals, and six blocked shots on the way to her first weekly award of the season. In a 104-56 triumph over crosstown rival Greensboro on Monday, Giannopoulou went 6-for-10 from the field on the way to 14 points with eight rebounds (6 defensive), two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. On Wednesday, Giannopoulou led all players with 23 points in a 63-60 win over Roanoke. She was 10-of-19 from the field and again pulled down eight boards (7 defensive). She added an assist, three steals, and four blocked shots in a strong all-around showing. Giannopoulou capped her week with 19 points and six rebounds (4 defensive) in a 71-60 victory over EMU. She was 8-of-13 from the field and added two assists, a steal, and a blocked shot. For the season, Giannopoulou is tied for seventh in the ODAC in scoring (14.9) and tied for eighth in rebounding (8.0). She is first in blocked shots (15), second in blocked shots per game (2.1), and seventh in field goal shooting (.459; 39-of-85).

  • RILEY CORCORAN | BRIDGEWATER | GUARD
    Corcoran, a senior from Chapel Hill, N.C., collects her first ODAC weekly honor of the season after a pair of strong outings that included the first 30-point outing by a Bridgewater women's basketball player since 2021. On Wednesday, Corcoran opened her week with 17 points in the Eagles' 54-42 win over Randolph. She was 4-of-8 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul. She chipped in four rebounds (all offensive), three assists, and a steal. On Saturday, Corcoran helped power Bridgewater to an 82-72 overtime victory at Averett with a 30-point explosion. She was 9-of-21 from the field including 2-of-4 from deep and went 10-of-12 from the foul line. She added eight rebounds (2 offensive) and dished out four assists to go with a steal and a blocked shot. Corcoran is now just 13 points away from cracking 1,000 points for her career. On the season, Corcoran leads the ODAC in points scored (158) and is second in scoring (19.8). She is first in field goals made (57), second in free throws made (38), and sixth in field goal shooting (.475; 57-of-120). She is also seventh in steals (19).

    • Averett guard DaiShaundria Giggetts scored 18 points in each of AU's games last week, averaging 7.5 rebounds with 3 assists, 6 steals, and 2 blocked shots.
    • Bridgewater post Jaiden Polston pulled down 13 rebounds in each of BC's wins, averaging 7.0 points with 8 assists and 7 steals.
    • EMU guard Jeriyah Osborne averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds with 4 assists and 6 steals in the Royals' two games.
    • Randolph-Macon forward McKenzie Matheny averaged 10.5 points and 12.5 rebounds with 8 assists in the Yellow Jackets' 2-0 week.
    • Roanoke playmaker Paige Breuer averaged 18.5 points with 6 made three-pointers and dished out four assists, while guard Ashley Fowler averaged 12.0 points and 10.5 rebounds with 5 assists in the Maroons' two outings.
    • Shenandoah guard Emily Williams scored 17 points in both of SU's wins, notching the game-winner in a 62-61 win at Virginia Wesleyan and pulling down 10 boards for her 4th double-double in a 79-61 win over Roanoke. Guard Skai Bayless averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds with 10 assists and 6 steals.
    • Virginia Wesleyan guard Bre Robinson averaged 22.5 points with 3 assists and 6 steals, while guard Maesyn Blayock averaged 6.5 points and 5.0 rebounds with 11 assists and 7 steals in the Marlins' 1-1 week.
    • Washington and Lee forward Mary Schleusner posted 18 points and 17 rebounds with 4 assists and 2 blocked shots in a 73-65 win at Averett.
