FOREST, Va. --- An undefeated run through the ODAC schedule and three deep tiebreaker scenarios dominate headlines upon the announcement of the 2025 ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament field.
Washington and Lee University extended its run of unbeaten ODAC regular season schedules to 11 straight campaigns as the nationally ninth-ranked Generals posted a 10-0 league slate in the upcoming conference postseason. WLU's position and the University of Lynchburg as the fifth seed are the only two entries in the eight-team field to not be impacted by tiebreakers.
Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, and Shenandoah University each finished at 8-2 and tied for the second seed. Bridgewater College and Virginia Wesleyan University closed the season at 5-5 in a tied for sixth. Averett University, Eastern Mennonite University, and Ferrum College all clocked in at 4-6 and tied for the eighth and final seed.
Shenandoah will play as the second seed and receive a coveted bye through both the first round and quarterfinals. The Hornets win over Roanoke on Wednesday evening gave them the advantage in a tied scenario that bypassed the first three steps in the ODAC's procedure and needed goal-differential among the tied teams and then a return to head-to-head results to settle. Shenandoah and Roanoke both featured a plus-2 differential with Randolph-Macon sitting at minus-4 after the comparison study that employs a cap of five goals in either direction. That left RMC as the fourth seed, but under league rules, a new tie was created between SU and RC, which reverts back to head-to-head results. That's where Shenandoah's win over Roanoke in the regular season finale proved valuable, awarding the higher seed to the Hornets.
The stalemate between Bridgewater and Virginia Wesleyan went even deeper into the league's tiebreaking procedure. The Eagles and Marlins did not face each other in the sport's unbalanced schedule, leaving head-to-head results impossible to use. They both also did not face Averett, leaving the rest of their schedules as identical with losses to all teams above them in the standings and wins against all teams below them. Each of the ODAC's first three global tiebreakers were ineffective as well as the first two-of-four sport-specific options. That left the third entry - goal differential in games against ODAC opponents in conference play (cap of 5 goals) - to break the tie. Bridgewater posted a plus-1 differential, while VWU finished at even. The Eagles will play as the sixth seed and welcome the Marlins to campus for a first round game on Saturday.
The tie for eighth place was very similar to the one for second with goal differential among the tied teams deciding the field-capping team assignment. In contests between Averett, EMU, and Ferrum, the Panthers finished with a plus-1 mark, while the Royals were even and the Cougars were at minus-1. Ferrum enters the field as the eighth seed.
