FOREST, Va. --- The final ODAC spring sport regular season to close was baseball on Sunday evening, setting forth the eight teams that will compete over the next two weekends in the ODAC Baseball Tournament.
The University of Lynchburg wrapped up the regular season championship and top-seed in a stacked field of talent. The Hornets (18-4) are one of four squads to earn hosting privileges in four best-of-three series that make-up the opening weekend of action.
There were no ties in the final league table, giving fans a clear view of what to expect. Joining Lynchburg as opening weekend hosts include second-seeded Randolph-Macon College (15-7), third-seeded Bridgewater College (14-7-1), and fourth-seeded Shenandoah University (14-8).
The best-of-three series are intended to be played over two days, but alterations to that schedule may be necessary due to graduation ceremonies, weather predictions, or other unforeseen situations. Regardless, Roanoke College, Averett University, Hampden-Sydney College, and Ferrum College will travel for early round play next weekend. The fifth-seeded Maroons head north on I-81 to SU, while the sixth-seeded Cougars also travel up the corridor to BC. The seventh-seeded Tigers head to rivals RMC in Ashland, while the Panthers make the relatively short trip to the Hill City to meet Lynchburg.
If there are any seeded upsets on opening weekend, the squads will be reseeded as appropriate prior to championship series weekend at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. This is the second season that ODAC baseball has called the new all-turf venue home. Double-elimination play is slated for Thursday through Saturday, May 8-10.
Below is a schedule for the upcoming ODAC Baseball Tournament. All game times are to-be-determined for opening weekend. Be sure to stay tuned for updates to the league schedule and school websites with confirmed game dates and times and live links for video and statistics.
