ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 3

The ODAC's men's soccer programs remained entirely in non-conference play through the third weekend of the season, including a matchup between Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan as a non-league tilt outside of their ODAC framework. League teams competed in 19 total games with an 11-6-3 (.658) overall mark. Lynchburg is the only unbeaten team in the table at 3-0-2, while Bridgewater, H-SC, Randolph-Macon, and nationally 15th-ranked Roanoke top the chart at 4-1-0. VWU is 4-1-1, while EMU (3-1-2) and Guilford (3-3-0) have each won three games. Overall, the ODAC is 34-17-13 (.633) in non-conference games.

  • TYLER PETZ | HAMPDEN-SYDNEY | FULLBACK
    Petz, a junior Cary, N.C., put in a pair of full shifts at full back in the both wins of Hampden-Sydney's 2-0 week. Petz helped the Tigers keep a clean sheet during the midweek while also getting forward to provide an assist in H-SC's 3-0 home win over nationally 24th-ranked University of Mary Washington. On Saturday, Petz scored the first goal of the game in the 44th minute in Hampden-Sydney's eventual 2-1 win at Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference tilt of ODAC foes. Petz is the ODAC leader in assists through five games with four. His six points are tied for 10th in the league.

  • HAMIDULLAH TOKHI | EMU | FORWARD
    Tokhi, a first-year from Gainesville, Va., had a hand in three of the Royals' five goals to help EMU post a 1-0-1 week. In a 2-2 draw at Southern Virginia University during the midweek, Tokhi turned Elijah Byrd's dish into an assist in the eighth minute for the game's first goal. On the weekend with EMU trailing at Marymount University, 2-0, at the half, Tokhi got the comeback started with EMU's first goal just 26 seconds into the second half. In the 82nd minute with the game tied 2-2, Tokhi returned the favor to Byrd from the previous game on the game-winning goal for a 3-2 victory. For the season, Tokhi is tied for fifth in the ODAC in points (9) and goals scored (4).

    • Bridgewater goalkeeper Davis Bashore made two saves in a 45-minute second-half shift and forward Trey Widrick scored once and assisted on two other goals in BC's 4-2 win over William Peace University.
    • Guilford midfielder Isaac Garbia scored two goals in the Quakers 5-1 win at Mary Baldwin University.
    • Hampden-Sydney forward Pierce Boerner scored once in a 3-0 win over the 24th-ranked University of Mary Washington and assisted on a goal in a 3-1 loss at Christopher Newport University.
    • Lynchburg posted a 9-0 win over Regent University for the program's most goals since 2019. Forward Carlos Andres Romero registered a hat trick with an assist on a fourth goal.
    • Randolph-Macon midfielder Bryce Kuberek scored the game's first goal and defender Grant Counts assisted on the second while helping RMC keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Washington & Jefferson College.
