ODAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 3

Women's volleyball is home to the first ODAC contests of the fall season with four midweek league matchups featuring within a schedule of 30 total matches. Bridgewater, Guilford, Randolph-Macon, and nationally ninth-ranked Washington and Lee all began the league slate with victories with the Generals sitting at 11-0 overall. Fellow nationally-ranked counterpart Virginia Wesleyan is one tick above WLU at 11-0 in the league table, while Lynchburg, which received votes towards the latest AVCA top-25 survey, also features double-digit victories at 10-1. In non-conference action, league teams went 19-5 (.792), helping the ODAC improve to 65-39 (.625) in non-conference play.

  • KAITLYN KAPLAN | RANDOLPH-MACON | DS/SETTER
    Kaplan, a senior from Norfolk, Va., posted five strong matches patrolling the Yellow Jackets backline and serving as an adept passing option in helping Randolph-Macon to a 4-1 week that included a win in RMC's ODAC opener against Randolph-Macon. Kaplan racked up 79 digs at 4.39 per set with double figures in each match. She chipped in 13 assists and four service aces while also only making five receiving errors over more than 60 reception attempts. Against the WildCats, Kaplan registered 10 with three assists and a clean receiving line in a 3-0 victory. On day one at Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College, Kaplan combined for 39 digs with 13 in a 3-0 win over Hunter College and 26 to tie for the second-highest total in a single-match in the ODAC this season in a 3-2 setback to William Peace University. She also had six assists in those two matches. On day two, Kaplan recorded 17 digs with four service aces and two assists in a 3-1 triumph over the host Mules. She capped her weekend with 13 digs and two assists in a 3-0 win over Cedar Crest College. For the season, Kaplan is fourth in the ODAC in digs per set (4.00) with 96 over 24 sets.

  • HANNAH SMITH | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | OUTSIDE HITTER
    Smith, a graduate student from Virginia Beach, Va., registered 32 kills and hit .414 while adding 31 digs and two blocks defensively to lead the nationally 24th-ranked Marlins to a 3-0 week. Smith started with 10 kills on 17 swings for a .529 hitting percentage with 11 digs and a block assist in a 3-0 victory over Regent University. In back-to-back matches on Saturday, Smith combined for 22 kills on just 41 swings with five aces, 20 digs and a block. Smith made just one reception error in chances for a .960 percentage on the week. For the season, Smith leads the ODAC in kills (145) and is third in kills per set (3.72). She is fifth in aces (20) and total digs (141), and is 11th in hitting percentage (.286).

    • Averett outside Sydney Mounce hammered 19 kills at a .500 clip, while setter Dayton Moore handed out 28 assists with 21 digs in a 3-1 loss at Guilford in the Cougars ODAC opener
    • Bridgewater libero Anna Black backed up her ODAC Player of the Week showing with 32 digs over a trio of 3-0 wins including one at Hollins in the Eagles ODAC opener. Setter Lindsay Kelley dished out 44 assists over the three matches.
    • Guilford outside Natalie Moore posted 18 kills at a .271 percentage with 3 aces, 12 digs, and 4 total blocks in a 3-1 win over Averett in the Quakers ODAC opener.
    • Lynchburg libero Abbey Barlow registered 28 digs and nine assists in two matches of the Hornets 3-0 week. Middle Ava Meinhardt posted 20 kills at a .444 clip with seven aces and eight total blocks over all three matches. The Hornets are receiving votes towards the latest AVCA top-25 poll.
    • Randolph outside Kelsey Bowler posted 30 kills and 22 digs in the WildCats 2-1 week.
    • Randolph-Macon Allison Lach registered 50 kills with nine aces, 36 digs, and six total blocks in the Yellow Jackets 4-1 week.
    • Roanoke libero Teagan Hubble posted 45 digs with six assists in the Maroons 1-2 week. Middle Emma Catoe recorded 22 kills and four total blocks.
    • No. 24 Virginia Wesleyan's libero Skylar Rivers picked up 40 digs with nine assists and two aces in the Marlins 3-0 week.
    • No. 9 Washington and Lee libero Vivi Vasquez combined for 42 digs in two of the Generals three matches in a 3-0 week. Outside Cara Hamil posted 22 kills, 10 digs, and three total blocks over the three contests.
