ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 4

The final week of solely non-conference play is in the books for ODAC men's soccer, although three of the 18 games played last week did feature two league teams meeting in non-conference contests. Nationally 23rd-ranked Roanoke and Hampden-Sydney, which received votes towards the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III poll, went 2-0-0 for each to improve to 6-1-0, the most wins in the ODAC. Lynchburg remains unbeaten at 4-0-2 following a win in their only contest. Bridgewater, Randolph-Macon, and Virginia Wesleyan are each 5-1-1.

  • ANIBAL LOPEZ | AVERETT | GOALKEEPER
Lopez, a senior from Vigo, Spain, registered 13 total saves in helping Averett keep a pair of clean sheets in 0-0 draws against Randolph-Macon College (in a non-conference game) and at Methodist University. Against the Yellow Jackets, Lopez saw 23 shots fired at his net with the Cougars backstop turning away all seven on-goal. His goal was again a popular target for the Monarchs on the weekend with Lopez making a half-dozen saves against 16 total shots. For the season, Lopez leads the ODAC in save percentage (.864) and saves per game (5.43) and is tied first in shutouts (4). He is second with 38 saves.

  • RYAN PIDGEON | ROANOKE | MIDFIELDER
Pidgeon, a senior from Cary, N.C., was the man on the spot for Roanoke last week as he registered all three of the Maroons goals in a pair of tight victories. During the midweek, Pidgeon rescued three points for the Maroons with the game's lone goal just 23-seconds from full-time for a 1-0 victory over William Peace University. On the weekend, Pidgeon notched his first career multi-goal game with both goals in a 2-0 triumph over Penn State-Abington. Both goals came in the final nine minutes of action with an 81st-minute penalty kick and a long-range effort with 35-seconds to go. Pidgeon's goals this week mark his first tallies of the season.

    • Bridgewater goalkeeper Davis Bashore made one save each in a 0-0 draw with EMU in a non-conference game and 3-2 win at St. Mary's (Md.). Midfielder Anthony Eugenio scored once and assisted on another goal against St. Mary's.
    • EMU goalkeeper Ryan Bousfeld made nine saves in a 0-0 non-conference draw at Bridgewater and made three more stops in a 1-0 win over Wilson. Defender Logan Darrow had the goal against the Phoenix.
    • Hampden-Sydney defender Owen Edwards scored the game-tying goal and midfielder Mason Dudley registered the game-winner in a 2-1 non-conference showdown with Randolph College.
    • Lynchburg defender William Casey helped anchor a Hornets defense that allowed just two shots to Mary Washington – which received votes towards the latest United Soccer Coaches poll – and midfielder Keaton Napior provided the offense with the game's only goal in a 1-0 win.
    • Randolph-Macon defender Wiley Eubank contributed to a pair of clean sheets and scored the Yellow Jackets only goal of the week in a 0-0 draw at Averett and a 1-0 win over Southern Virginia.
