ODAC Swimming Report: Week 1

Two weeks following the season-opening ODAC Relays hosted by Washington and Lee, ODAC swimming enjoyed its first head-to-head regular season events of 2026-27 over the weekend. The Generals were joined by Hollins, Randolph, and Batten in posting wins this weekend.

  • MARCY MORTIMER | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
Mortimer, a junior from Richmond, Va., won three individual events and turned in a second-place showing in one relay to help Washington and Lee open the regular season with a 171-91 triumph at the University of Mary Washington in the Eagles' Goolrick Natatorium. Mortimer won both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke races, posting times of 1:07.24 and 2:28.13, respectively. Both of those times would have been inside the top-11 on the ODAC's 2025-26 final top-times listing. Mortimer added a gold medal in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.02, which would have been inside last year's top-10 in the conference. Mortimer swam the second leg on the Generals' 400-yard medley relay “A” squad. She joined Katelyn Giffen, Peighton Kruzel, and Tenra Adams in placing second at 4:01.96.

  • LEIGHTON CHAPMAN | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
Chapman, a senior from Houston, Texas, turned in three winning swims and a silver to help Washington and Lee open the regular season of competitions with a 156-106 victory at the University of Mary Washington in the Eagles' Goolrick Natatorium. Chapman won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles, posting times of 0:20.91 and 0:46.58, respectively. Both of those marks would have slotted inside the top-seven on the ODAC's 2025-26 top-times list. Chapman swam on a pair of the Generals' relay units. He swam the anchor leg and joined Ryan Smith, Ben Blomgren, and Logan Divine on a time of 3:27.20 to win the 400-yard medley relay. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Chapman hit the water first with Smith, Elijah Koh, and William Gordon following him. The quartet placed second with a time of 1:25.48.
