ODAC Field Hockey Bracket Set

Lynchburg's Big Week Leads to No. 1 Seed

FOREST, Va. --- The University of Lynchburg turned in not one but two nationally-ranked 3-2 wins this week to help the Hornets secure the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Field Hockey Tournament for the second straight season.

Last year, Lynchburg (13-5 overall, 8-0 ODAC) won a tiebreaker with Shenandoah University and Washington and Lee University to top the six-team field, but this year it was victories of a different variety that vaulted Lynchburg to pole position. On Wednesday, Lynchburg earned a 3-2 overtime result over the nationally 19th-ranked Generals. On Saturday afternoon, Lynchburg again registered a 3-2 triumph, this time in regulation over No. 24 Shenandoah.

Those two wins put Lynchburg at 8-0 in conference games for the program's first unbeaten league campaign since going 9-0 en route to the 2023 conference championship.

Lynchburg is joined by second-seeded Washington and Lee (12-4, 7-1) with coveted byes through the quarterfinal round. They will host the winners of Tuesday's championship openers on Thursday.

Randolph-Macon College (11-6, 6-2) will play as the third seed and host one of Tuesday's quarterfinals along with fourth-seeded Shenandoah (12-4, 5-3). The Yellow Jackets' position is their best since finishing as the runner-up out of the same slot in 2013.

The final two seeds in the field needed tiebreakers to determine. Bridgewater College (9-9) and Roanoke College (6-11) tied at 3-5 in the league table. The Maroons defeated the Eagles, 1-0, eight days ago, which earns the higher seed for RC. Roanoke will travel to SU in the quarterfinals, while BC will begin its tournament at RMC.
