ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 5

ODAC teams competed in 14 total games last week featuring nine league outings. No. 8 Washington and Lee (8-1-0, 3-0-0) posted a pair of league wins over Hampden-Sydney (7-1-2, 1-1-1) and Roanoke (3-6-0, 1-2-0). Bridgewater (7-3-1, 2-0-1) and Guilford (2-5-3, 1-1-1) were both unbeaten over two games at 1-0-1, while No. 14 Lynchburg (7-1-2, 1-0-1) and Randolph-Macon (4-1-2, 1-0-1) won their lone league contests. The Generals top the league table with nine points of nine, while BC sits second with seven markers.

  • MILES FURMAN | WASHINGTON AND LEE | GOALKEEPER
    Furman, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., collects his second ODAC weekly award of the season after notching a pair of clean sheets to help No. 8 Washington and Lee to a pair of wins in ODAC play. The Generals have earned a full nine points towards the conference table from their first three ODAC outings. Furman made three saves in both games as he guarded WLU's goal in a pair of 90-minute shifts. The first came in a 3-0 triumph at Hampden-Sydney College, and he followed with a second shutout in a 2-0 victory over Roanoke College. For the season, Furman leads the ODAC by a wide margin in both save percentage (.905) and goals against average (.24). He has made 19 saves and allowed just two goals over 765:00 in frame. His six clean sheets also lead the conference.

  • RILEY QUEEN | BRIDGEWATER | FORWARD
    Queen, a senior from Trinity, N.C., was involved in three of the Eagles' eight goals last week as Bridgewater moved into second place in the ODAC table by collecting four points to give them seven markers overall, two back of table-topper Washington and Lee. In a 2-2 draw with Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday, Queen turned provider on Lucio Bianchi's second goal with 28:14 showing on the first half clock. All four goals in the game came in the opening 45 minutes. In a 6-1 victory at Averett University on Saturday, Queen was on the mark twice. He posted the game's first two goals, registering his first tally just 26 seconds from the opening whistle. Connor Campbell provided the assist on his second goal in the 22nd minute. For the season, Queen leads the ODAC in all offensive categories – points (24), goals (8), assists (8), shots (36), shots on-goal (18). He has contributed to at least one goal in 8-of-11 games played this season.

  • ADRIAN NAJARRO
    Batten, goalkeeper
    Najarro played all 180 minutes across Batten's two matches, making six saves with a .600 save percentage. He recorded two saves against Christopher Newport and four against Lynchburg.

    Batten, forward
    Napior scored one goal for two points during Batten's two-match week. His tally accounted for the Captains' goal in a 2-1 ODAC loss to Lynchburg.

    BRAXTON SEBASTIAN
    Bridgewater, freshman, defense
    Sebastian scored one goal for two points while playing 161 minutes across Bridgewater's two matches. His goal came in the Eagles' 6-1 ODAC victory at Averett.

    RYAN LUCERO
    EMU, first year, midfielder
    Lucero scored one goal for two points during EMU's two-match week. His 83rd-minute equalizer secured a 1-1 draw against Division I VMI and marked the first collegiate goal of his career.

    SAM BAYER
    Guilford, senior, goalkeeper
    Bayer played all 180 minutes during Guilford's 1-0-1 week, totaling nine saves with a .750 save percentage. He made seven saves to help preserve a 2-2 draw at Bridgewater before adding two stops in a 3-1 victory at EMU.

    SEBASTIAN URGILES
    Guilford, freshman, forward
    Sebastian scored two goals for four points during Guilford's 1-0-1 week. Both goals came in the Quakers' 2-2 draw at Bridgewater.

    VIKRAM COUTO
    Lynchburg, sophomore, goalkeeper
    Couto played all 90 minutes in Lynchburg's 2-1 ODAC victory over Batten. He made five saves while allowing one goal for an .833 save percentage.

    SAUL LOPEZ COREAS
    Lynchburg, sophomore, midfield
    Lopez Coreas scored one goal for two points in Lynchburg's 2-1 ODAC victory over Batten. His tally was the game-winning goal for the Hornets.

    DAMIEN JACKSON
    Randolph-Macon, senior, midfield
    Jackson scored one goal for two points in Randolph-Macon's lone match of the week. He struck inside the opening five minutes and provided the game-winning goal in the Yellow Jackets' 2-0 ODAC victory over Randolph.

    SEAN O'LAUGHLIN
    Roanoke, sophomore, forward
    O'Laughlin totaled three points on one goal and one assist during Roanoke's two-match week. Both contributions came in the Maroons' 3-1 ODAC victory over Randolph, with his goal serving as the game-winner.

    GRANT OTTO
    Shenandoah, sophomore, defender
    Otto totaled three points on one goal and one assist as Shenandoah went 1-0-1. Both contributions came in a 2-2 draw at Hampden-Sydney, with his assist tying the match at 1-1 before his goal gave the Hornets a 2-1 lead in the 71st minute.

    ROWAN SELLERS
    Washington and Lee, first year, forward
    Sellers recorded three points on one goal and one assist as No. 8 Washington and Lee won twice to extend its winning streak to eight games. He contributed a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory at Hampden-Sydney and, through nine games, leads the Generals with four goals and nine points.
