ODAC Baseball Report: Week 1

ODAC baseball is back! Nine of the conference's 11 squads opened play last week and posted a combined 14-11 (.560) in 25 non-conference games. Bridgewater is 3-0 with sweep of DeSales University, while Averett swept Hood College and Shenandoah took two from Misericordia University to start the schedule 2-0. Hampden-Sydney and nationally sixth-ranked Lynchburg are both 2-1, while EMU, Guilford, and Virginia Wesleyan also picked up a win each.

  • TYLER KALTREIDER | LYNCHBURG | SP
Kaltreider, a senior from Warrenton, Va., put together a stellar outing to kickoff the defense of his ODAC Pitcher of the Year 2025 campaign. Kaltreider started 2026 with six shutout innings to lead nationally sixth-ranked Lynchburg to a 10-0 shutout over George Fox. He allowed seven hits and did not walk a batter while registering 10 of his 18 outs via punchout. He struck out at least one batter in each frame on the way to throwing 96 pitches. All seven hits Kaltreider surrendered were singles.

  • QUINN MADDEN | LYNCHBURG | CENTERFIELD
Madden, a graduate student from Burke, Va., celebrated his return to the field with a pair of multi-hit games and a 1.506 OPS to help nationally sixth-ranked Lynchburg to a pair of wins in their first three outings of the season. Madden, who missed most of last season due to an injury suffered in the second week of play, went 6-for-13 with a triple, two homers, and five runs driven in to help the Hornets shutout of George Fox University (10-0) and a 7-5 triumph over Piedmont University surrounding a 4-3 setback to Rhodes College. Madden went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored against GFU. Against Rhodes, he went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a sacrifice fly to account for his two RBI. Versus Piedmont, Madden helped Lynchburg recover from a 4-0 deficit with a RBI single and a two-run blast in the seventh to provide the winning margin. He went 3-for-5 overall in that contest.
