AMHERST, Va. --- Nationally top-ranked
University of Lynchburg lifted its seventh straight ODAC equestrian trophy on Saturday afternoon after topping No. 5
Bridgewater College, 7-3, in the conference's single-discipline championship at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center on the campus of
Sweet Briar College.
This is the second ODAC prize for Lynchburg this season. In October, the Hornets claimed their fourth straight ODAC traditional championship. Today marked their third single-discipline title to account for all three events conducted by the conference.
The Hornets' duo of
Madeline Rubin and
Becca Collier garnered MOP honors. Rubin scored the high score of not only the fences session but of the entire show with an 86.5 while riding Luca. She defeated BC's
Willow Wright by 46.5 points to claim their matchup.
Still, the fences competition was tight with Lynchburg claiming two additional points to win the session, 3-2. Collier defeated
Piper Harris, 78.5-74.5, while riding Hemingway.
Stella Patenaude earned a 70.0-63.5 win over
Margeret Brown while riding Tallulah. For BC,
Madeleine Granger posted an 86.0-82.0 triumph over
Mary Katherine Ragsdale with the pair riding Kobe, who was named the MOP horse of the fences session.
Sabrina Forbes earned a 71.0-40.5 win over
Amaya Bellfield while riding Winston.
On the flat, Collier garnered her MOP honor with a session-high 82.0 to defeat
Margarita Trukhina by nine points while riding Balou, the MOP horse of the flat competition. Lynchburg claimed this competition, 4-1.
Abigail Zemp scored a 75.0-66.0 win over
Jimena Garcia Nunez.
Abigail Devlin posted a 78.5-49.5 win over Granger on GG, and Bellfield recovered for a 76.0-64.0 triumph over Brown while riding Kanye. Wright accounted for BC's point, picking herself up to register an 81.5-50.5 result over Rubin on Cooley to level their personal matchup at 1-1 on the day.
Next up for any qualifying ODAC squads is the NCEA Natonal Championship at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla. Competition is slated for April 15-18 with the top-four in the NCEA's single-discipline final rankings advancing. Currently that would include both Lynchburg and Sweet Briar.
