ODAC Softball Report: Week 6

ODAC squads featured in 15 doubleheader series over the past week with all but three in conference play. Nationally top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan remained unbeaten overall, improving to 24-0 overall and 8-0 in league following a 6-0 week. Lynchburg went 4-0 in league outings to run its winning streak to nine straight and improve to 16-8 overall and 6-0 in conference. Bridgewater is 6-2 against league foes and 18-6 in all games. Averett (16-8) and Shenandoah (16-6) have each won 16 outings with the Cougars picking up a split against 15th-ranked CNU.

    Kegley, a freshman from Mechanicsville, Va., was the “perfect” stopper for Randolph-Macon last week as she tossed a perfect game on the way to picking up a pair of complete game victories. In the Yellow Jackets ODAC split with Sweet Briar on Thursday, Kegley played stopper by helping RMC recover from a game one loss (4-1) to completely shut down the Vixens' offense with the first perfect game of her collegiate career. She struck out seven batters and split the remaining 14 outs evenly between ground balls and fly outs. She tossed 87 pitches. Kegley was nearly as strong on the road, facing just two batters over the minimum in a 3-1 triumph at Roanoke on Sunday. Her victory game after a loss (4-1) in game one. She gave up one run on two hits and did not walk a batter with four strikeouts. Roanoke's leadoff hitter started the game with a single and scored. Kegley then retired the next 13 batters before giving up a one-out single in the fifth. She closed the game with eight straight outs thereafter. For the season, Kegley is 4-2 with a 1.76 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 47.2 innings. The opposition is hitting .190 against her.

    McQueen, a junior from Clayton, N.C., collects her second straight ODAC weekly honor after helping nationally top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan stay unbeaten (24-0) with six victories against league foes last week. McQueen went 10-for-21 (.476) with a 1.399 OPS powered by two doubles and two homers. She drove in 12 runs, scored eight times, walked three times, and stole a trio of bases. In a road sweep (30--0, 8-0) at Randolph Tuesday, McQueen went 2-for-5 with a RBI, three runs scored, a walk, and a steal. The Marlins stayed on the road with a pair of road sweeps at Roanoke (9-0, 11-2) on Saturday and at Bridgewater (4-2, 10-4) on Sunday. Against the Maroons, McQueen went 4-for-8 with five RBI and two runs scored. She doubled in game one and walked twice with a pair of steals in game two. Versus the Eagles, McQueen went 4-for-8 with a big three-run homer in each game on the way to six RBI and three runs scored. She also doubled in game two. For the season, McQueen is hitting .500 (33-of-66) with a 1.408 OPS. She has four doubles and six homers with 38 RBI. She has walked 13 times and only fanned once. She is 11-of-12 on stolen base attempts.
