ODAC Baseball Report: Week 10

  • CHASE DePALMA | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | SP
DePalma, a first-year from Norwalk, Conn., appeared twice for Virginia Wesleyan last week, going 1-0 with 11 strikeouts in 10.0 total innings on the hill. DePalma's first outing came in an 11-2 loss to nationally second-ranked Lynchburg. He worked an inning, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits with one strikeout. DePalma returned to the mound on Saturday and went the distance in a 10-3 win in game two of a doubleheader sweep of Washington and Lee. He tossed 149 pitches in the longest outing of his short career.  He surrendered three runs (two earned) while scattering 11 hits. He walked three and struck out 10 to register his first collegiate double-figure strikeout game. For the season, DePalma is 4-4 with a 4.74 ERA. He has fanned 54 in 57.0 innings.

  • JACK POKORAK | LYNCHBURG | 1ST BASE
Pokorak, a senior from Dumfries, Va., was both prolific and clutch in helping nationally second-ranked Lynchburg extended its winning streak to 21 straight games with a non-conference win over Methodist University (15-1) on Tuesday, an ODAC sweep of Virginia Wesleyan University (11-2, 20-3) on Wednesday, and an ODAC road sweep of No. 9 Bridgewater College (5-2, 7-6) on Saturday. Against MU, Pokorak went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a sacrifice fly. He was also hit by a pitch twice. Versus the Marlins, Pokorak went 3-for-6 combined with three RBI in each game and three total runs scored. He homered, walked, and plated a run with a sac fly in game two. At BC, Pokorak went 5-for-9 with a homer and a walk in game one. He drove in three runs over the two games, including a RBI single to plate the go-ahead and would-be game-winning run in the eighth inning. For the season, Pokorak is hitting .393 with a 1.204 OPS. He leads Division III with 68 RBI, one shy of tying former Lynchburg standout Avery Neaves for the ODAC record. His league-best 13 homes are tied for fifth in Division III.
