ODAC Baseball Tournament Field Revealed

Lynchburg Clinches Second Straight Regular Season Crown

FOREST, Va. --- Nationally second-ranked University of Lynchburg is in the pole position for a second straight season with the Hornets claiming their second regular season crown in as many seasons and the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Baseball Tournament.

Lynchburg (31-4-1 overall, 18-1-1 ODAC) waited until the last series of the season to lose in conference play for the first time, which also snapped a 22-game winning streak and 24-game unbeaten run dating back to March 7. But the Hornets got the best of their fellow namesake, seventh-ranked Shenandoah University, in the final game of their weekend series to enter the postseason on a positive note.

Shenandoah (30-9) and Randolph-Macon College (23-12) closed the schedule tied at 13-7 in the league table. They split during the regular season, so the ODAC 5-Point Tiebreaker was employed to solve the deadlock. The system involves assigning points for wins in official league games in multiples of five based on the number of teams in the league (i.e. a win over Lynchburg would be worth 55 points). SU came out ahead in the point total, earning the Hornets the second seed with the Yellow Jackets playing as the third seed.

Bridgewater College (30-10, 12-8) earned the fourth seed outright. The Eagles join Lynchburg, SU, and RMC as hosts of a best-of-3 series next weekend to kickoff two weeks of ODAC postseason baseball. Those two series are designed to be played on consecutive days from May 1-3. Graduation and exam schedules plus weather predictions are being consulted. Stay tuned for finalized dates and times for games this weekend.

Washington and Lee University (20-12-1, 10-9-1) enters the fray as the fifth seed with a date at Bridgewater on opening weekend. Which team would be playing in Winchester and Ashland required a second application of the league's tiebreaking protocols. Hampden-Sydney College (18-21) and Virginia Wesleyan University (20-16) tied at 10-10 in the conference standings. They split their regular season series, which meant that the 5-point tiebreaker would again be referenced. It solved the stalemate with the Marlins earning the sixth seed and a trip west on I-64 to RMC. The Tigers will play as the seventh seed and open with Shenandoah.

Roanoke College (23-16, 9-11) caps the eight-team field. The Maroons square off with Lynchburg in the Hill City to begin their postseason slate.

The four winners from weekend No. 1 will reset -- and reseed -- before heading to Capital One Park for double-elimination play. This is the third season the Tysons-area venue has crowned the ODAC's champion. Play is slated for May 7-9 in Northern Virginia.

Below is a schedule for the upcoming ODAC Baseball Tournament. All game times are to-be-determined for opening weekend. Be sure to stay tuned for updates to the league schedule and school websites with confirmed game dates and times and live links for video and statistics.
