ODAC Softball Tournament Field Set

Marlins Make History with Best-Ever ODAC Regular Season

FOREST, Va. --- The ODAC is in the midst of its 50th year of operation, so it is pretty difficult to set new major records. But that is exactly what Virginia Wesleyan University softball has done.

The nationally top-ranked Marlins completed the first 40-0 regular season in conference history this weekend, sweeping through its ODAC slate at 20-0 to match the league record posted by VWU's 2017 national championship winning squad. Virginia Wesleyan claims the ODAC regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Softball Tournament.

This year's eight squads begin two weekends of postseason play with regional pod-style double-elimination action at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va. Two pods of four teams will compete over three days to determine the two advancing programs that will square off in a best-of-three series -- mimicking the NCAA super regional structure -- for the conference trophy. Play is slated for Friday-Sunday, May 1-3 in Salem with the highest remaining seed hosting the championship series over consecutive days from May 7-10. The final dates and times will be determined once the qualifiers are known and exam/graduation schedules can be reviewed and weather considered.

In Salem, Pod #1 will play on Field 1 at the Moyer Complex. That group includes #1 VWU, fourth-seeded University of Lynchburg (24-16, 13-7), fifth-seeded Roanoke College (20-18, 12-8), and eighth-seeded Guilford College (18-21-1, 8-12). Pod #2 plays its games on Field 3. That contingent features #2 Shenandoah University (29-9, 14-6), #3 Randolph-Macon College (26-14, 13-7), #6 Bridgewater College (26-14, 11-9), and #7 Averett University (24-16, 9-11).

Both pods in Salem will utilize the same structure with a small tweak on day two. The teams that win on Friday will play in the first game on Saturday. Previously, the ODAC featured an elimination game to start day two with the teams that lost on Friday squaring off. However, the change this year brings the ODAC in-line with the Division III regional round format.

Below is the schedule for the upcoming ODAC Softball Tournament.
