ODAC Softball Report: Week 10

  • HANNAH HEARL | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
Hearl, a sophomore from Orange County, Va., continued her stellar season with 12.0 shutout innings to lead nationally top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan to pair of ODAC wins as the Marlins made conference history as the first squad to post a 40-0 regular season since the ODAC began sponsoring softball in 1990. Hearl kicked off her final two starts with six shutout frames in a 9-0 non-conference win at Salisbury. She allowed just two hits and walked one batter while fanning a dozen Sea Gulls. Hearl then went the distance for a six-inning one-hit shutout of Lynchburg in an 8-0 triumph. She did not walk a batter and again registered 12 strikeouts. For the season, Hearl is an ODAC-best 20-0 with a 0.54 ERA in 103.0 innings of work. She has struck out 154 and walked just 18 batters while holding the opposition to a .100 batting average.

  • MORGAN TUCKER | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | RIGHT FIELD
Tucker, a sophomore from Dinwiddie, Va., is in the weekly winners' circle for a second straight week after helping nationally top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan to a 4-0 record with sweeps on the road at Salisbury (9-0, 12-3) and versus Lynchburg (8-0, 12-1). The Marlins are now 40-0 overall, making them the first club in ODAC softball history – dating back to 1990 – to post a maximum 40-0 regular season mark. Tucker slashed an eye-opening .583/.625/1.417 with five of her seven hits going for extra bases on the way to racking up 12 RBI and six runs scored. At Salisbury, Tucker went a combined 4-for-7 with three RBI in each game. She homered and walked twice in game one and tripled in game two. Against Lynchburg, Tucker went 3-for-5 with six RBI including five in game two. She doubled and walked with two runs scored and a sacrifice fly in game one, and doubled with a homer in game two. For the season, Tucker leads the ODAC in many major statistical categories including batting (.523), OPS (1.581), slugging (.982), OBP (.599), homers (10), and RBI (71). She is five RBI shy of matching her own ODAC record for runs driven in in a season.
