Everything Clicks in Eagles Win Over W&J

Bert Goes the Distance, All Starting Position Players with at Least One Hit Each

WASHINGTON, Pa. --- Bridgewater College did not treat its hosts kindly on Saturday morning as the Eagles exploded for 11 runs and 19 hits and got a complete game from righty Evan Bert on the way to an 11-0 shutout of Washington & Jefferson College at Ross Memorial Park.

The win keeps Bridgewater (34-14) not only in the double-elimination regional, but it means the Eagles will be active one more time on Saturday in another elimination game. BC will meet either the University of Scranton or the University of Chicago in a showdown set for 8:00 p.m. ET.

Bert scattered eight hits over a full nine innings of work to improve to 8-4 on the season. He walked just two and matched his career-high with 12 punchouts to go along with seven ground ball outs. His effort combined with a stellar offensive outing for the Eagles that saw every starting position player register at least one of BC's 19 hits.

Designated hitter Zack Chadwell matched his BC career-high with six RBI powered by a two-run blast to right in the third and a bases clearing three-run double to left-center in the fourth. First baseman Chandler Valbak also left the yard with a two-run shot to left-center in eighth to account for half of his RBI in the contest.

Third baseman Ashton Smith also had three hits including a double, while center fielder Jakson Walter and left fielder Bryce Suters each doubled.

Chase Perry took the loss for W&J, falling to 2-2 after allowing seven runs on nine hits. He did notch six of the 11 outs he recorded via strikeout. Left fielder Zac Stern had two hits for Washington & Jefferson (32-13) including one of two doubles. Right fielder Andrew Miko had the other.
