How It Happened in Game 1
  • In the bottom of the second with two outs, Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) singled for RMC's first hit of the day, followed by a five-pitch walk from Justin Lanouette (Chantilly, Va./Freedom). On the second pitch of his at-bat, James Baffone (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) ripped a single to left, driving Quici in for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Penn State Harrisburg responded in the top of the third, as the inning began with a single up the middle. The next batter was hit by a pitch, before a walk loaded the bases with two outs. A difficult infield ground ball forced a run across, knotting the game 1-1.
  • RMC responded in the bottom of the third, as Jack Bowles (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) started the inning with a single. Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) kept the momentum going with a double down the left field line, driving Bowles home for a 2-1 edge. Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) continued to move the line with a single to right, putting Yellow Jackets on the corners. The Lemon and Black extended the lead to 3-1 thanks to Duff, who plated Wernoski on a fielder's choice. The Yellow Jackets earned runners on first and second as a result of a walk from Zach Stolze (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and they were each pushed 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt from Quici. Lanouette increased his team's cushion to 5-1, after he smoked a line drive off the shortstop's glove.
  • On the second pitch in the top of the fourth, PSH posted a solo home run. The Nittany Lions were able to get back within one, down 4-5, once a walk was followed by a homer to center. With one out, the four seed placed a double down the left field line and the runner was moved to third on a fielder's choice. A two-out single evened the game, 5-5, after the ball was put up the middle.
  • Schmitt started the bottom of the sixth with a single to center and was then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Duff. Stolze used a deep sacrifice fly to center, allowing Schmitt to tag up from second base to take a 6-5 lead.
  • PSH drew a leadoff walk in the top of the sixth, which was followed by a one-out walk. The runners were moved to second and third on a ground ball to Wernoski, but back-to-back hit batters forced a run across to tie the game at six. The Nittany Lions took a 7-6 edge, after a batter was walked in from third base. A single to right field drove two more runs across, increasing the count to 9-6. Another base on balls reloaded the bases, but Trey Gauch (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) recorded the last out with a looking strikeout to get RMC out of the inning.
  • The Nittany Lions continued their offense in the top of the ninth with singles up the middle and down the right field line for runners on the corners. A short infield ground ball got one another run across for the four seed, resulting in a 10-6 score. The lead was then extended to 12-6, on a two-run double from PSH.
  • With one out, Wernoski and Schmitt both buried back-to-back singles in the bottom of the ninth. Stolze followed with a walk of his own to load the bases for Quici, who laced a two-RBI single to left to create an 8-12 score.
