LEXINGTON, Va. --- Nationally 10th-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee University scored three times in the fourth quarter to power its way to an 8-6 win over second-seeded Randolph-Macon College to claim the Generals 16th straight and 26th overall ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship on Sunday afternoon in Lexington.
Washington and Lee (13-5) earns the ODAC's automatic entry into the Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship bracket. The NCAA field of 47 teams is slated to be announced on Monday at 10:30 a.m. ET via selection show on NCAA.com.
Sunday's clash between WLU and Randolph-Macon (14-4) marked the lowest-scoring ODAC title game since the Generals defeated the Yellow Jackets, 7-3, 2017. RMC has now finished as the runner-up eight times with seven coming as second place to Washington and Lee.
This year's edition of the WLU/RMC finals clash was nearly as even as a game could be until the fourth quarter. WLU's Grace Kim and RMC's Camil McNeally scored first in the frame for a 6-6 score with 8:10 to play in regulation. The game's final two goals came from Washington and Lee sticks with Lara Baki and Hannah Van Son scoring at 4:38 and 1:42 on the board, respectively.
Van Son led all players with four points on three goals and an assist. Kim and Baki notched two goals each. McNeally led RMC with three points on two goals and one helper.
Sydney Walsh led the Yellow Jackets' defense with three caused turnovers, while Hailey Pierce and Kiley Kurcoba corralled two draws. Christina Petras forced two turnovers for the Generals' defense with Hannah Russell and Kelly Polacek securing two draw controls apiece.
Both goalkeepers were strong with RMC's Gillian Gladden stopping 10 shots split evenly between the two halves. Iman Haddad made seven saves in front of WLU's net.
