LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Randolph College Director of Athletics Tom Galbraith announced Friday the hiring of Brett Capps to lead the men's lacrosse program for the WildCats. He becomes the third head coach in program history.

Capps takes over at Randolph after serving the last year as the head coach at NCAA Div. II St. Thomas Aquinas College (N.Y.). Prior to being named head coach for the Spartans, he served as associate head coach at STAC for two seasons. Concurrent to his duties at STAC, Capps has served as assistant coach and defensive coordinator for the U.S. World U-18 national team for USA Indoor "Box" Lacrosse. From 2021-24, Capps led Keystone College (Penn.) to its most successful stretch in program history before the sport was dropped.

"Randolph is fortunate to have found a proven program builder like Brett during our search for a new head coach," Galbraith said. "For the entirety of the search, we said the goal was to find the right person to lead and build this program in one of the toughest leagues in the country. We accomplished that goal."

In building programs at STAC and Keystone, Capps expanded recruiting efforts beyond the U.S. and into Canada and Australia and pushed the overall roster numbers into the 40s. He actively supports youth lacrosse development as well by serving as an assistant coach for New York Reign Travel Lacrosse Club and as the director of its box lacrosse program since 2024.

"I am grateful for the opportunity and excited for the work at Randolph to begin," Capps said. "The ODAC is as competitive of a conference as any in the country, and I am encouraged by the challenge to meet the goals we set and achieve success one day at a time."

Capps' collegiate coaching career began at Wake Forest (N.C.), as the assistant coach for the institution's club lacrosse team from 2016-20. Concurrently, he also helped run the varsity high school lacrosse program within the Davie County School District in North Carolina.

As a student-athlete, Capps scored 35 career goals in two seasons at Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.), where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in criminal justice. The 2012 and 2013 seasons were the inaugural two campaigns for the Redhawks program.

Capps and his wife, Amanda, are the parents of two sons, Otto (6) and Atlas (3). He will begin his coaching duties at Randolph in August.
