ODAC Football Play of the Week Nominees - Week 8

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Bridgewater

Bridgewater got several big plays from its offense in its 44-41 overtime setback to Randolph-Macon, and none induced more excitement that Demetreus Jalepes’ 38-yard screen pass touchdown to help the Eagles come all the way back from a 17-0 deficit. Jalepes grabbed the floated pass from Jay Scroggins and jumped thru one tackle attempt before running over a second person trying to make the stop. He eluded two more tacklers before diving over the goal line to knot the score at 17-all with 4:17 on the third quarter clock.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Emory & Henry

Emory & Henry pulled out a big 52-50 win over Shenandoah on Saturday, with much of that production coming from the Hunter Taylor to Derrick Yates connection. The pair hooked up eight times for 148 yards and three touchdowns on the day, and was so fruitful that Yates even returned the favor with a 17-yard pass to his quarterback. On this play, Taylor found Yates for their third TD play with 13:54 on the second quarter clock. Taylor lofted a 35-yard pass to Yates outside the numbers at the 5-yard line, which he took the rest of the way for a 24-14 lead.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Ferrum

Brian Mann was a big play machine in the Panthers 38-35 last-second setback to Washington and Lee. Mann found the end zone three times including runs of 71 and 33 yards. However, his longest TD was his first and came via special teams. After the Generals took a 14-0 lead with 2:06 to go in the first quarter, Mann cut that lead in half with an 88-yard kickoff return for a score. He left little doubt about his intentions as he crossed the field after picking up the bounding kickoff, ran past several would-be tacklers before final running thru an arm-tackle on the way to paydirt. Mann finished with 273 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Guilford

Guilford put together a strong performance despite its 38-35 last-second loss at Hampden-Sydney. The Quakers even got a contribution from the special teams with 6:56 on the first quarter clock. Receiver Montek Johnson turned punt-blocker as he came thru the center of H-SC’s line almost untouched and nearly took the ball off the Tigers punter’s foot before blocking the kick and returning the loose ball for a touchdown. The score put the Quakers ahead, 14-8. Johnson later added a second touchdown receiving as he caught four passes for 60 yards on the day.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Hampden-Sydney

There are few things more exciting that making a play in crunch time to decide a contest, and that’s exactly what Hampden-Sydney kicker Rhett Anderson did against Guilford on Saturday. The Tigers started their final drive on their own 11-yard line with 1:04 to play. Eight plays later, H-SC was on the Quakers 29-yard line with Anderson trotting out to the field to attempt a game-winning kick. Anderson laid into the football and sent it thru the uprights from 46-yards away for a 38-35 victory to stay within a game of the top of the ODAC standings.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Randolph-Macon

Randolph-Macon led Bridgewater 17-0 early on, but trailed the Eagles 31-24 late in the fourth quarter. Tre Frederick highlighted his 31-carry 238-yard day with his third touchdown run to bring the Yellow Jackets level at 31-all with 3:59 to play. Frederick took the handoff from Burke Estes and immediately bounced out wide. After making a second move left, he ducked under a tackle back towards his right and beat the Eagles secondary in a sprint to the end zone. The TD proved to be the one that would force overtime, which R-MC turned into a 44-41 victory for its sixth straight win.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Shenandoah

Shenandoah may have come up on the wrong side of a 52-50 score line at Emory & Henry, but that didn’t keep the Hornets from ripping off a big play or two. This touchdown pass from Hayden Bauserman to Trammel Anthony put SU on the scoreboard with 7:02 on the first quarter clock and the Hornets trailing 14-0. Bauserman put a perfectly lofted ball to Anthony, who pulled in the throw with an over-the-shoulder grab at the 8-yard line. Anthony then carried two tacklers to the end zone for his second TD catch of the season. The pass was the first of five touchdowns throw by Bauserman.

  • ODAC Football Play of the Week - Week 8 | Washington and Lee

Washington and Lee benefitted some several big plays in its 38-35 last-second win at Ferrum – including a game-winning 31-yard field goal by Jarret Wright as time expired. Running back Josh provided three long scoring plays including runs of 39 and 37 yards, but it was his first that set the tone for the game. On the first play from scrimmage, Breece showed off elite speed when he bounced his run outside and beat all players to the corner. He sprinted 64 yards to beat a final defender to the pylon for an early 7-0 lead. Breece finished with 232 yards and 3 touchdowns on 24 carries.
