ODAC Volleyball Tournament | 8-Team Field Ready for Action

Randolph-Macon #1 for Sixth Straight Season

FOREST, Va. --- Randolph-Macon's streak of chart-topping volleyball reaches a half-dozen seasons as the Yellow Jackets enter the ODAC Volleyball Tournament as the top seed for a sixth consecutive year. Virginia Wesleyan, the second seed in the eight-team field, joins R-MC as one of four squads to host quarterfinals. The remainder of the bracket, however, needed tiebreakers to sort out.

Three teams tied for the remaining two coveted positions in the top-four as those spots come with quarterfinal hosting privileges. Bridgewater, Guilford, and Washington and Lee each finished at 9-3 in league play. Head-to-head results among the three, which is the first step in the conference's tiebreaking protocols, quickly sift thru the stalemate. The Quakers defeated both the Eagles and Generals in the regular season, afford Guilford the third seed. Bridgewater will play as the fourth seed after going 1-1 in matches against GC and W&L, while the Generals occupy the fifth slot and will travel to BC for quarterfinal action.

The tie for fifth between the Lynchburg and Roanoke was also solved via head-to-head tiebreakers. The Hornets, having won at Roanoke in the regular season, take up the sixth position and head to Guilford for a quarterfinal showdown. Roanoke earns the seventh seed and a trip to Virginia Wesleyan for quarterfinal play.

A second three-way was left to decide the remaining spot in the field. Eastern Mennonite, Emory & Henry, and Randolph each posted 4-8 conference records. Head-to-head results could not break the lock as each had won a match against one of the other programs. The second step of the ODAC's tiebreaker, which awards points to a team for victories over a league opponent based on their conference finish, propelled Randolph into eighth position. The WildCats will meet Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinal play begins Wednesday, November 6, at times to be determined. The semifinals and championship will be hosted by the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinals. Those matches are slated for Friday and Saturday, November 8-9.
